Level 3/4

Term Two is well and truly back up and running with lots of learning and activities happening across Levels 3 and 4.

In Level 4 we have continued to focus on narrative writing. We have worked on improving our sizzling starts, backfill and tightening tension. For Reading, we have been developing our skills in the strategy of visualizing and learning about verbs. For Maths, we have finished off our learning about area and perimeter and started learning about chance and probability. In the Resilience Project we have started working on character traits and what we can identify in ourselves and others. For Inquiry we have continued our learning about communities by participating in and incursion run by the Whitehorse Council and followed this up with a reflection of how Rangeview has changed overtime. Students are working on their portfolio journals on SeeSaw for this.

We have had several incursions and excursions over the last few weeks. Last week the Year 3s and 4s were visited by members and volunteers of the Whitehorse Council to learn more about our local area. Students visited Heatherdale Reserve where they participated in a guided walk of the Reserve to learn about some of the important features, as well as historical uses of the land. We also learned about the natural landscape and some of the flora and fauna found in the Reserve. Students were also taught about some traditional indigenous games and were given the opportunity to experience some of these games, which was lots of fun. Back at school, a presentation from the Council taught us about the history of our local area and the changes that have occurred over time, featuring some amazing aerial images of Rangeview PS over the past 50 years. This was a great way to support and enrich the work we have been doing in our Inquiry unit this term.

The Level 4 students have also had a Science Incursion. The students participated in a ‘Hands on Science’ incursion called ‘States of Matter’ as part of our Chemical Sciences curriculum. All students were given the opportunity to investigate solids, liquids and gases and explore how both heat and chemicals create changes between these states. Students had fun creating a lava lamp, prompting them to predict, observe and reflect on this and other experiments. So much fun was had by all as shown in the photos below.

Level 3 students completed the four NAPLAN assessments last week and we could not be prouder of their efforts. They all applied themselves to the best of their ability and showed exemplary behaviour. Well done to everyone who participated.
