PE and Sports at WVPS

This term has been very exciting, we have loved having our PE and Sports Program back and running without covid interruptions. There has been lots happening throughout the school with some great achievements from our students.

Girls AFL Football

Our senior girls AFL team finished in 5th place at their recent Gala Day at Wyndham Vale South Oval. For most of the girls this was their first time playing AFL and it was great to see their improvement throughout the day.

Grade 6 Interschool Sports

Grade Six Students have been participating in weekly winter sports on Friday mornings against other primary schools in our district, this included AFL, Soccer, Netball, Hockey and Tee Ball. Students also participated in a one off Winter Gala day where our Hockey and Soccer teams both finished in first place and will progress through to the Division Finals in Term Three. Congratulations!

Cross- Country

This term we have had our progressions from the fun run. Well done to those students who raced at the District and Division level. We recently had five students race at the Regional Cross Country. This is an outstanding achievement and our school community should be super proud of their efforts. Well done to Abdi, Ryder, Zara, Issac and Xavia.

Great work!

Physical Education

During PE lessons and throughout Grade Four and Five P.E enrichment programs, we have been focusing on athletics. Students have further developed their previously learnt fundamental motor and movement skills to be able to confidently perform a range of track and field events. Students have been experimenting with variables like speed, power and aerobic endurance to be able to jump higher/further, to throw/push further and to run faster/ further.

We have been focusing on the importance of warming up before exercising and how this can improve performance. We have enjoyed working in teams during our relay races and students have been responding to feedback to improve their techniques while also developing personal best times and distances and benchmarks for improvement. At the end of this unit students will celebrate their learning at the school athletics carnival in Term Three. There will be two separate athletics days held at our school for years 3-6. Students in Foundation-grade 2 will participate in a modified athletics day later in Term Four..

New Sports Equipment

We have also been able to purchase some brand new PE equipment to help us with our athletics training so thank you to everyone who raised money for our sports program by fundraising for the fun run. We have a new high jump mat and measuring bars. New batons for the relay, long jump and triple jump take off matts and other accessories like shot puts and discus. If there are any other PE or sports equipment you would like to see purchased for athletics or PE lessons please tell your house captains, JSC reps or PE teachers!

In Term 2, the Foundation students have been learning all about living things in our Biological Science unit.

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of Week 8, our wonderful Foundation classes went on their very first excursion to the Animal Land farm in Diggers Rest.

We got to do lots of fun activities at the farm and practise being real farmers!

We got to milk Ellie the cow, make some butter, ride Snowflake the pony, feed the ducks, chickens, sheep and alpacas, cuddle baby rabbits and guinea pigs, planted seeds and went on a tractor ride.

We loved the farm!
