A message from our Principal

Dear Families

Thank you for your support throughout second term and I’m sure the young people in your family are looking forward to the upcoming school holidays.  In relation to preparation for this a few reminders:

  • Tomorrow school finishes at 2.30pm,  following a whole of school assembly.  Children will need to be collected at this time.  Our after school care program will commence earlier.
  • Tomorrow is a casual dress day.  Students are able to come to school not wearing uniform
  • The canteen will be operating tomorrow
  • The first day of third term is Monday, July 11, 2022

Enrolments for 2023

We are currently taking enrolments for the 2023 school year and have recommenced school tours.  If you know of someone who is interested in attending our school next year, direct them to our website where the dates of the school tours are listed.  Also, if you have a sibling of a current student due to start next year, please call into our office and collect an enrolment form for that child.  We are starting to plan transition sessions for our youngest students and it would be helpful if we had correct numbers: and your child can’t be included in this activity if they are not enrolled.

Parent teacher interviews

This afternoon is the second afternoon of parent teacher interviews this week.  Many parents took advantage of the opportunity to met with their son or daughter’s teacher on Monday to get a deeper understanding of how their young person is progressing through school.  Thank you to our staff for staying back to ensure that this happens – and to our parents who have shown an interest in their child’s education by their attendance here.

Foundation farm excursion

Last week our foundation students enjoyed an excursion to the farm.  They came back with tales of chickens, ponies and cows and all seemed to have an enjoyable time.  This also prompted some impressive writing pieces from our youngest students.  Later in the newsletter under School News we have some photos of this day to share with you.

Personal property

Parents, a timely reminder about student’s personal property as published on our school website:

Wyndham Vale Primary School understands that staff and/or students may sometimes like to bring items of personal property to school.

The Department of Education and Training does not have insurance for personal property of staff, students and visitors. Wyndham Vale Primary School does not take responsibility for items of personal property that are lost, stolen or damaged at school or during school activities. Damage to personal property brought to school is the responsibility of the owner of that property.

Wyndham Vale Primary School encourages staff and students not to bring items of value to school, or to obtain appropriate insurance for such items.

School holidays….

…. Is a time for your children to sit and relax, and re-energise themselves in preparation for the term ahead.  Hence we don’t ask them to do any school work in the holidays.  However, we do encourage you to keep your child reading.  Children who take the opportunity to read over the holidays will maintain or even improve their achievement level upon their return to school.

Congratulations to……

…. those students who represented the school in the regional cross country.  This is a fabulous effort, and each of you represented the school very well.  Well done to you all.

New Baby

Sive
Sive

Congratulations to Lyndsey O’Connell, a former foundation teacher and school tutor, on the arrival of her new baby girl, Sive.  I’m sure some of Lyndsey’s former students will be very excited, and that we are all pleased to hear this good news.

Mobile phones and smart watches

A reminder that all mobile phones held by students  must be signed in upon arrival at school.  They can be collected at the end of the day.  This is inclusive of smart watches – even those in parent/school mode or similar.  This is in line with departmental policy, enacted across all Victoria government schools.  A copy of our own policy in relation to this is on our school website, and can be found here: https://www.wyndhamvaleps.vic.edu.au/school-strategic-plan  then look under the school policies heading.

New Lighting

You may have noticed some work going on at the school last weekend. We had our ceiling lights upgraded to LED’s as these give a better quality of light without the flickering effect fluorescent lights can give. These lights have the benefit of being far more energy efficient, as well as providing a better lighting source for the children. The use of LED lights has a positive impact on the environment by reducing the waste of energy that is not necessary and  LED lights are more than 80% more efficient than other fluorescent bulbs.
