Principal's Report

COVID PROTOCOL

Parents are welcome to come on site to drop and collect children from classrooms. We ask that all adults wear a mask while on site until further notice.

NAPLAN

Year 3 and 5 students undertook NAPLaN testing last  week. Thank you to Graham Wegner for organising the online testing and supervising students participating. Our students all had a positive attitude toward taking the tests.

Once we receive results we will communicate with parents.

PARENT –STUDENT- TEACHER INTERVIEWS

These will take place in week 10 this term.

Parents and Carers will have the opportunity to meet with class teachers to discuss learning progress. Mid Year reports will be provided during the interviews.

This is an important step in continuing to build open communication between home and school and a critical way for us to work together to maximise learning outcomes for every student.

READING AT HOME

At HPS we expect every student to engage in reading at home every day.

Students are provided with selected take home texts that they will bring home every day.

Please ensure your child brings these texts to school every day. Reading practice will continue daily at school.

Research shows that if students are not reading and comprehending at appropriate levels by Year 3 they are at serious risk of never catching up to their peers.

DfE recommended reading levels:

At the end of :

·         Reception – level 5

·         Year 1 – level 13

·         Year 2 –level 21

IELC

We were notified last week that the Intensive English Language Centre will be reinstated on site at Hampstead Primary School.

This is great news for our school!

We will begin with 2 classes.

Currently we are in the process of allocating staff (teachers and a leader) to the program. Once staff are allocated we will begin to enrol students.

We estimated the program could begin later this term.

More details as soon as we know about staffing.

FEDERAL ELECTION

We have been identified as a site for a polling booth on May 21st. We would like to be able to offer a BBQ for voters. We really need  parent volunteers to support this fundraising opportunity for our school.

If you have any time to offer us on Saturday May 21st – please notify Hayley in the admin office ASAP.

We will need to know by Monday May 16th at the latest.

STUDENT LEADERS

Our student leader teams are meeting regularly this term.

Our teams are:

·         Sustainability

·         STEM

·         Whole School Events

·         Wellbeing

Keep an eye out for further information /events!

GROUNDS UPGRADE

During the holidays the drainage and entry to the school via Karoomba St was upgraded. A sump was installed to direct water directly into the SWALE.

New paving has widened the entry and removed the trip hazards caused by tree roots.

Thanks to Jon our groundsman for organising this.

Kind regards,

Joy Keddie
