Killester Joins the Premier's Reading Challenge!

I am proud to announce that Killester College has entered the Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge for the very first time. All students in years 7-10 have been entered and there are great prizes on offer for those who finish it. All students have to do is read 15 books (10 from the Challenge list and 5 free choice) between March and September. Every student who finishes the Challenge will receive an honorary certificate of completion from the Premier of Victoria AND will be invited to a special VIP party in the Library wear they can enjoy pizzas, soft drink and lollies. WOOHOO! Not only that, students who have finished the Challenge will also go into the draw at school to win any book of their choice from Booktopia or possibly the ultimate prize, an 18 speed dual suspension mountain bike! YES! Keep track of how many books you’ve read on the class lists in the library -you receive a shiny star sticker for every book you read.

Term 1 Chess Tournament

Last term, we had a highly successful Chess Tournament, with over 40 entrants from every year level. We paired up students against each other in each year level and played knockout rounds each week until we had the last player left. Then, we had semi-finals and played the best of each year level against each other until we have a grand final to decide the overall best chess player at Killester (Tournament Champion) for the term. Our school champion for Term 1 was Rhea Fernandez in Year 8. Our staff champion was Mr. Mark Vickery. Congratulations Rhea and Mark! Just for fun, at the end of the competition, we held a Students Vs Staff match and the winner was…. Rhea Fernandez! Congratulations on beating the teacher Rhea and being crowned “Queen” chess player of Killester! You are an absolute champion and we looking forward to presenting you with your special badge at assembly.

Makerspaces - Mother's Day Edition

Our first MakerSpaces session in the Library on Tuesday was another huge success. The girls enjoyed creating shiny scratch cards for their mothers or for the significant females in their lives. Some students also chose to make a decorative gift box. It was wonderful to see such talent and time spent on these.
