Principal's Report

“Do your best, help others succeed and respect your environment” – Monash Special Developmental School!

Some exciting news!!

We received some very exciting news last week. I am delighted to announce to our school community that we have received a gold award for our achievements and continued work for School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support(SW-PBS). We are one of the first schools in Victoria to achieve this status due to the commitment and hard work of our school community as we continue to strive to always "do our best, help others succeed and respect our environment"! This is a huge achievement. It takes a number of years to achieve this level of accreditation and the successful implementation of evidence based school wide practices that support our students to be the very best they can be. SW-PBS is at the heart of everything we do at Monash SDS with our Structured Teaching framework and school based ABA program (STAR and Links) very much a part of our school wide classroom practices implemented to be able to achieve this level. I am incredibly proud of the work we have done to achieve this and we will be celebrating together over the next few weeks.

Capital Works

Things are progressing well with our new building and when Sandra and I had our fortnightly site meeting with the builders and architects, it was exciting to see plumbing pipes going in. Lots of busy work despite the rain causing some problems the week before.

COVID Update

As you will know, from our recent Compass post, you are no longer required to test your child every day from Monday 23rd May unless symptomatic. I do urge you to keep your children at home when showing any cold like symptoms and be patient with us if we require you to pick up sick children. Unfortunately COVID has not gone yet despite the easing of restrictions and we have had a number of cases recently both with students and staff. We still need everyone to be vigilant with symptoms and testing if required as we work together to keep our community as safe as possible.

Education Week

Next week is education week. the theme is 150 years of public education in Australia  -"Past, Present and Future". We will be focusing on celebrating the present by showcasing our evidence based high impact teaching programs. This will be shared in the next newsletter.

Please remember to sign you up if you can for our Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on May 29th!

As always please reach out with any questions or concerns.
