Year 4 Museum & Gallery Excursion

In Week 3, Year 4 visited the Orange Regional Gallery and Museum. Within the Museum we learned more about the history of Wiradjuri people and their dreaming stories and traditions. We got to see artefacts such as axes and boomerangs and even held some volcanic rock from Gaanha-Bula (Mount Canobolas). This visit helped us deepen our learning in History lessons, where we are learning about First Nations Peoples as the original inhabitants of Australia. At the Gallery we watched a film by artist, William Kentridge, and learned more about his collaborative practice. We worked together to make our own artworks inspired by his art.

Junior HICES Debating

In Week 2, the Junior HICES debaters competed in Round 3 against Macquarie Anglican Grammar School. The topic was 'Primary schools should provide lunch to all students'. We had one team win and one team coming a very close second. Both debates were to a high standard and the feedback given was appreciated in helping the teams grow in their debating skills. With only two rounds to go, the pressure is on to secure a place in the finals!

Gowrie fun for Term 2

We have had a very busy beginning to Term 2. The students have created beautiful Mother’s Day cards, works of art for the Orange show, had a mini Olympics and celebrated Star Wars 'May the fourth be with you'. Some students have constructed STEM projects, such as cup phones, solar boats and a battery powered car. Students have become architects using connector straws, magnet blocks and Lego to build future worlds.

Pre-Kinder

This Term Pre-Kinder have welcomed back our parents' roster. The idea is to give parents/carers the opportunity to spend some time in Pre-Kinder to gain an insight to what happens in their child’s day.

Last week one of our mums, Ria Pegum, came to visit. Ria is a florist so put her skills to the test at Pre-Kinder. Ria guided the children in making their own posy of flowers for Mother’s Day. The children got to choose their own flowers , cut the stems and arrange them in a vase. It was a lovely experience for the children.
