Rubbish Rebel Waste

World Ocean Day dress up day  - Wednesday the 8th of June

To celebrate World Ocean Day we are having a Gold Coin casual clothes dress up day - the theme… Ocean!

The money raised on this day will go toward our sock recycling program to help us keep textiles from ending up in landfills.

Here are some ideas for dressing up. Or wear your school uniform, blue for the ocean.

ResourceSmart Schools Awards – 2022 Finalists

By the time this newsletter is released we will know the outcome of the ResourceSmart Schools Awards for 2022. We are so proud that SPS was a finalist and even more proud of the change we are making across our school to improve environmental outcomes for the community.

Our nomination came as a result of the dramatic landfill decrease we made throughout the start of this year. We have managed to reduce our landfill waste by 60%! This is due to nude food lunch boxes and the taking home of any rubbish brought to school.

We do this for many reasons and not just to decrease our landfill bins here at school but also to encourage the purchasing of package free products and buying in bulk to reduce single use plastic products. Thank you for your ongoing support with this!

Bread Bag Recycling

Our school is collecting bread bags to send off to Wonder Recycling Rewards. The more we collect the more points we earn for our school. Points = sports equipment. Bring your empty bread bags, no matter the brand to the Enviro Room.

We will be collecting from now until the end of August so we have PLENTY of time to earn plenty of   points..

Oral Care Challenge

Exciting news! Our school has signed up for the Terracycle/ Colgate Community Garden challenge. This means, we need your used oral care packaging to earn us votes, the more product packages we collect the more votes we earn, the better our chances of winning a community garden!

It’s easy to get involved, simply bring ANY BRAND completed oral care products (image below) and we will collect them and send them away for recycling. Bring them to the Enviro room.

1 unit of oral care waste received for recycling = 10 Garden Points1 online vote = 1 Garden Point

Hello all,

This week the video is super short, it would be good to show the students where their food scraps are going and what it looks like. Our SubPods (near the bike shed) are doing an amazing job of breaking down our food waste.

Once this food waste is broken down completely we will use the end product to compost our vegetable garden beds to grow new veggies!
