Guided practice requires high frequency student responses to check for understanding and facilitate teaching to automaticity.
Guided practice is used in the ‘We Do’ part of the lesson. The mantra ‘Practice Makes Perfect’ is often used in this part of the lesson and subsequently a teacher at Yarrabah allows plenty of time for students to practice what they have been taught.
Teachers will allow students to practice new things while supporting them to do so. This allows students to become fluent while refining their skills. During this time, the teacher monitors how well students are doing and helps them if needed.
Week 5 is an opportunity to practice or repeat past lessons. We are not setting new learning tasks for students at this stage. Instead we are interested in providing opportunities for students to practice skills in new ways. Take the opportunity to repeat some of the lessons your child enjoyed over the past 4 weeks and tune into some new lessons from across the school.
