Principal's Post

Dear Parents,
As you are aware adjustments have been made to our scheduled programmes. Families have been notified about the cancellation of Parent Teacher Interviews, the postponing of Mission Action Day and the changes to our Sacrament of Reconciliation Schedule. All schools are amending their programmes in the interests of Community Health as we tackle the impact of the Coronavirus.
Last week, along with Avila students, parents, representatives from the local primary and secondary schools and Avila Alumni, our student leaders attended the Annual Avila Breakfast. This annual event coincides with International Women’s Day and guest presenter Kerrie Brewer, who is the General Manager – Foundation and Community from the Hawthorn Football Club, entertained and informed all in the attendance. We would like to thank the Avila Community for inviting us to be part of their Annual Breakfast.
This week concluded our first term commitment to Outdoor Education. Every year level has experienced an Outdoor Education or camp experience. The latest participants were the Year 10s who had an overnight camp and two days Personal Development, which included Driver Education, and the introduction of the Morrisby Online Diagnostic Assessment that has been introduced to schools across the state to assist them with their career and vocational choices. Morrisby have developed a flexible online careers tool, based on psychometric assessments, which can help and inspire students to explore different career and education options and get a feel for the opportunities available to them. Morrisby careers and education planning tools are fully interactive and offer personalised advice, helping your son to choose options and make informed decisions and study pathways and career opportunities.
The Morrisby Online Diagnostic Assessment provides an integrated assessment of an individual’s aptitudes, interests, personality and working styles and highlights their strengths and underlying abilities. It then uses these results to suggest suitable careers and areas of study, particularly useful when planning for a Senior School Program in Year 11 and 12 (VCE or VCAL).
Last Friday Ms Tina Giacco, Mrs Michelle Symms (Mazenod Development Manager) and I attended the Season Launch for the Mazenod Football Club. Carl Costabile, as President, hosted a huge gathering of players and parents excited about the prospects of a new season. Twenty five teams and twenty five coaches have been locked in. The connections with our Old Collegians and the respective clubs is so important to the broader De Mazenod Community. Thank you Carl and the Committee for a wonderful evening.
Yours sincerely,
Mr Tony Coghlan
Principal
