International Girls in ICT Day

On Thursday 28 April five Year 9 students attended the inaugural International Girls in ICT Day held at QUT, in partnership with Cisco and Women in Digital. Students heard inspiring stories from women who have found success in a range of technology-related fields. PhD candidates from QUT volunteered their time to talk with the girls about their projects and studies and how technology is a crucial asset in the fields of Mathematics, Science, Engineering and Sociology.

ISCF Camp

Over the Labour Day long weekend, four of our Year 12 students attended the Years 7 to 12 ISCF Camp held at Somerville House. The camp allowed our girls to make life-long friendships with students from Somerville, Brisbane Boys College and Sunshine Coast Grammar School. Students were immersed in a variety of fun, team-based activities. They also engaged in talks from inspirational speakers, which helped strengthen their connection with God as they explored their understanding of faith and reflected upon the topic of “Salt and Light”, which was the central theme of the camp.

Duke of Edinburgh

On Wednesday 27 April, our Duke of Edinburgh silver participants, along with Mrs. Wilson, set off very early for Cooloola National Park to complete a three day/2 night canoe expedition on the Upper Noosa River. This expedition is required for participants to meet the adventurous journey component of their award. This aspect of the award challenges participants to explore the outdoors, gain a sense of adventure and learn about the environment. The group launched their canoes from Harry’s Hut and canoed upriver to Campsite 2, where they camped for the duration. In preparation for the expedition, all members of the group were required to work together to plan the route and activities for the three days, plan all meals and pack all required gear and equipment. During the expedition, each participant had to navigate and lead the group, cook meals and set up and pack up camp. Some of the highlights of the trip were the sunset canoe on the first day and exploring further up-river on the second day, including a stunning hike to the Cooloola Sandpatch. Over the three days, students managed to canoe over 25km and hiked 12km.
