Mrs. Vivienne Corness - Assistant Head of Primary

P&F Thank You

Thank you so very much to all our P&F members, for their generous funding of our updated Pre-Prep playground. The children are enjoying exploring and playing together in their new space. Thank you, also, for the organisation of our annual Mother’s Day Stall. Under the lead of the wonderful Teresa Heinemann, who sourced such lovely gifts, many parents donated their time towards wrapping presents and assisting at the stall. For the first time, the Secondary girls were encouraged to purchase from the stall during their lunch break. The students were delighted to carefully select gifts for their mothers or ‘special others’. We hope all our Clayfield College mothers and grandmothers have a joyful day on Sunday.

National Assessment Program

Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN)

In Week 4, students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will participate in the annual NAPLAN assessment. The sessions for our Primary students are as follows:

Tuesday 10 May                Writing
Wednesday 11 May         Reading and Conventions of Language
Thursday 12 May              Numeracy

Please ensure no appointments are made requiring students to be absent from the College on these days.

All tests, except Year 3 Writing, will be completed online. Year 3 students will complete all other assessments on either their own laptop (if owned) or a school device. Year 5 students will complete the assessments on their own laptops.

If students are using their own device, they must bring their laptop to every session and ensure it is fully charged.

Students must also bring:

  • Wired headphones (e.g. with wires)
  • Lead pencil
  • Eraser
  • Pencil sharpener

NAPLAN tests are constructed to give students an opportunity to demonstrate skills they have learnt over time through the curriculum, and NAPLAN test days should be treated as just another routine event on the College calendar. Please support your child/ren by reassuring them NAPLAN is just one part of their school program and advise them to simply do their best on the day.

To help prepare your child/ren, please ensure they have a good night’s sleep, a suitable breakfast and arrive at the College on time.

Under 8’s Day

On Friday 13 May students from Pre-Prep to Year 3 will be celebrating Under 8’s Day. The theme for this year is play in an ever changing world. The children will engage in activities to support this theme during Lessons 1 and 2. Please ensure your child/ren are at their classroom by 8:30 am, dressed in their sports uniform. We look forward to a wonderful morning of fun and games!

Scholastic Book Fair

Clayfield College is hosting a Scholastic Book Fair from Monday 16 May until Thursday 19 May, in the Lower LRC. The theme of this year’s event is ‘Dive into Reading’! The goal of the Book Fair is to increase literacy by encouraging families to come together to promote reading, books and lifelong learning.

We would greatly appreciate your help in making our Book Fair a success. During the event, your child/ren will come home with a ‘wish list’ of two items from the Book Fair. The ‘wish list’ can be used to make online purchases. If you choose this option, please return the ‘wish list’ to the College with record of your payment. Alternatively, you are more than welcome to visit the Book Fair with your child/ren before school from 7:50 am to 8:20 am on the dates listed above. You will be able to purchase directly from the Book Fair via an electronic funds transfer.

Please consider purchasing an item from the Book Fair. Your contribution will make a positive difference toward improving literacy in our College. The Book Fair also encourages children to be excited about reading and learning.

SRC Book Fair Competition

The Student Representative Council (SRC) will be holding a Book Fair competition. Children in Pre-Prep to Year 2 will be invited to enter a colouring competition, and Years 3 to 6 students will be encouraged to design their own book cover and blurb for a book to match the theme of ‘Dive into Reading’. The SRC will be choosing three winners to receive a $20 gift voucher to spend at the Book Fair! Entry forms will be handed out this week and are due for judging by Friday 13 May.

External Student Achievements

It is always wonderful to share in the achievements of our students. May we please request parents/carers include Clayfield College Student Services StudentServices@clayfield.qld.edu.au in your email to the College regarding these successes. It is a pleasure to be able to communicate these achievements with our College community.
