MSC Clay Target Shooting Team

On the 15th of March, 11 students from our College travelled to the Bairnsdale Field and Game Shooting Range to compete in the 2022 Riviera Secondary School Championship.

The event was based on one of the hardest shooting disciplines, ‘Single Barrel Simulated Field’. In this style of competition, targets can come from any direction but the shooter only has 1 shot at each target. In total each competitor shot at 20 targets  and scores were recorded for both individual and squad performances (squads consisted of 5 shooters).

Maffra fielded 2 squads in the competition:

Squad 1 – Ethan Rogers, Zayden Mawson, Jack Bravington, Sam Dekkers and Alex Whitehead had an outstanding competition, coming second overall with a score of 54 one point behind Bairnsdale SC who won the competition on 55.

Squad 2 – Julia Reti, Ruben Corbell, Shaq Coridas, Kade Mahoney, Tyra Macklin and Cooper Mahoney, worked hard to come in 19th out of 25 squads.

This was also an important day for Shaq Coridas as he was presented with 2022 shooting Captain’s badge. Shaq did a great job of encouraging the team and was a positive and enthusiastic leader throughout.

Alex and Sam were equal "Top Gun" on the day with 12 from 20 followed by Jack and Ruben on 11 from 20.

Overall a very solid team effort by everyone and a great start to the 2022 schools shooting competition calendar. A special thank you to Miss King and parents who helped on the day.

Junior Shooters Permits

On Monday 28th of March, 13 students undertook the mandatory Firearms Safety Course in preparation for getting their Junior Shooters Permits.

We were privileged to have Mr Gary Howard from Field and Game Australia – Sale Branch conducting the course and we would like to publicly thank him for donating his time and expertise.

The course involved the completion of a 30-question test to qualify, with all 13 students being successful on the day.
