Music News

Gerry Ciavarella

Dear Parents/Carers & Music Students,

Besides the many disruptions with students being absent from school due to Covid, our music students continue to make great progress. Attendance has been excellent and our Year 7 students are checking Compass regularly to see when they have their weekly lessons. Instrumental music staff couldn’t be happier with the commitment and energy our students have displayed this term.

Junior Concert Band

It has been difficult organising junior band rehearsals on a Friday lunchtime with so many students being away. Hopefully we will have a better run next term where we can put all of our lesson work into practice playing new repertoire. Students should have the following pieces in their folders: First Year Blues, Hit The Groove, Take a Leap, Geronimo, Music, Music Music, Cha Cha Ciao and Eagle Summit March. If you are missing these please see Gerry as soon as possible.

Vacancies

Music is fun and it isn’t too late to play and instrument and join the instrumental music program. You can learn the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, violin, viola, cello, guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, drums, xylophone, glockenspiel, keyboard and voice. All students receive a 30 minute weekly lesson and the best part is you get to join one of our ensembles once you can play a few notes or chords. Come and see Gerry in A1 to have a chat about playing or even have a trial on an instrument. Information booklets are ready for you to take home which outlines all the features of the music program.

Music Fees

Tuition fees and instrument hire fees are now due. All families should have received statements in the mail outlining fees to be paid. A reminder that payment plans are available at the College. Contact the office on 5147 1790 if you would like to arrange a payment plan. If families need support in paying their fees please contact Gerry Ciavarella on 0409142240.

Concert

Our first concert will be held in term 2 on Monday 16th May in the Art Building. The Concert will commence at 7pm and should conclude by 8.30pm. It will feature our junior concert band, intermediate concert band, rock band, guitar ensemble, string ensemble, VCE music students, soloists and small group items. Please put this date in your calendars as it is compulsory for all students to perform on the night. More information will be available at the beginning of term 2.

On behalf of instrumental music staff Kimberley Gardiner, Ryan Lestrange and Donna Stemberger have a safe holiday and we look forward to seeing you all at the beginning of term 2.
