Around The Primary

Dear Parents

Thank you to parents and carers who participated in the online parent teacher meetings this week. This demonstrates to your child/ren that you value their learning and the important connection between home and school. Please discuss the interview with them and highlight and celebrate their strengths and develop goals for the term ahead.

This week has been a big week for our staff. They are doing their very best juggling the demands of home learning, face-to-face teaching and parent teacher meetings. Given that staff are our most precious resource, we need to support and encourage them and try to understand the unique circumstances they find themselves in. A few more weeks will hopefully see more children back at school and less overall disruption to our programs. We are all crossing our fingers for a much more 'normal' looking Term 2!

At the end of this term, Ms Carly Moore (Mary Ward Teacher) will be leaving to prepare to welcome a new family member and Mrs Georgia Reddell (Year 6 Blue Teacher) will be leaving early next term to prepare for her first baby. We wish them both well for this exciting time in their lives.

Mr Dustin Fromm (Year 5 Blue Teacher) has also advised of his resignation as of the end of this term.  Dustin will be returning to Adelaide to be closer to family and friends. We thank Dustin for his dedicated service to the College and wish him every happiness.

This week in COVID news – we currently have several ongoing positive cases across the College. Once again, I would like to again thank our community for being so supportive and vigilant and while there is still a rocky road ahead, we will continue to work in partnership with parents to keep our students safe and happy.

Take care and keep safe everyone.

Kind regards

It can influence how a person feels, thinks, interacts with others and experiences the world around them. You can learn more about autism here https://www.positivepartnerships.com.au/

Springtime in Japan

It is springtime in Japan and the Sakura (cherry blossoms) are in full bloom! Our Pre-Primary students enjoyed making their own Sakura pictures in class.

Sports Update

Over the past 3 weeks the Year 5 & 6 classes have been playing an ongoing basketball tournament within each class.  The students have taken charge of the tournaments and have been responsible for organising their teams, timing games, scoring and umpiring.  Whilst the games have been  competitive, the focus has been on developing and demonstrating their teamwork, communication, sportsmanship and leadership skills.  Their engagement and positivity throughout every aspect of the tournament has been impressive.  Next week will see the Finals!

Fun and games in Music!

The Primary students have been enjoying a number of musical games this term. Not only are they enjoyable; games are a research-based pedagogical method of reinforcing concepts and engaging students. Below are some of the Pre-Primary and Year 5 students practising note, keyboard and interval recognition skills.

If you have any queries regarding Primary Music, please contact me via email: catherine.haydon@cewa.edu.au
