Managing the Ongoing Risk

COVID-19 PREVENTION

Rapid Antigen Tests have been supplied to all families.
Rapid Antigen Tests have been supplied to all families.

Managing COVID-19 risks is a daily challenge here at school and we ask for your support in helping to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Students must wear masks in indoor settings and on public transport. These expectations continue this week and we will advise of any changes. Please send your child to school with a mask.

You can also assist by utilising the Rapid Antigen Tests supplied to all families.

We ask that children and staff are tested twice a week. There may be times, such as major school events, where we will suggest that students are tested to try to ensure anyone who is unwell does not inadvertantly spread the disease at these larger school-based activities.

You will notice we are advising families of positive cases here at school via email as we become aware of them and including any bus services that may be impacted. We want all families to be aware so they can take precautions, monitor for symptoms and test regularly.

We thank you for your support and vigilance.

The following guidelines will assist you should your child potentially be exposed to the disease, or should your testing uncover a positive result:

What you need to know

  • If your child is not experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, they can continue to attend school, but they should monitor for symptoms.
  • Students who show symptoms of COVID-19 cannot attend school and should test immediately and isolate until they receive a negative result.
  • Student should continue with twice-a-week rapid antigen testing on school days.
  • Students who have recovered from COVID-19 do not need to participate in surveillance testing for 8 weeks after their isolation period has ended.

For information on symptoms visit: https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/symptoms-and-risks.

For more information on how to get tested visit: https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/taking-test-covid-19.

If your child returns a positive result, you must:

  • Quarantine your child for seven days
  • Inform the school about the positive result
  • Your child must stay home until their symptoms have resolved and they are well. There is no requirement for a negative test result.

Everyone in your household is a close contact and must isolate for 7 days unless they are covered by a workplace exemption as per the Victorian Government guidelines, and they must test on day 6 and may return to school/employment after day 7 if they receive a negative result.

Reporting your child’s positive test

If your child was at school when they were infectious you need to report the positive case to the school by phone.

You must also report your child’s positive test to the Department of Health via the COVID-19 Positive Rapid Antigen Test Self-Reporting Form or call centre on 1800 675 398.
