STEM
Prep
In Prep the last few weeks we have been learning all about how to sequence events in order. This is part of their learning in the area of Technology as we are building the skills needed to work on computer coding and programming next Term. Students have had fun pretending to be robots by following simple instructions and have had a chance to see how our Beebots (robots) work. Part of coding is needing to know left from right so we have been practising which is which. Try it at home! Hold both hands up with palms facing away from you. Extend your thumbs down to make right angles with your pointer fingers and see which hand makes an ‘L’ for ‘Left’. The Preps have also thoroughly enjoyed having the chickens in the STEM room and are amazing at just how big they have grown!
Grade 1/2
The Grade 1s and 2s have been learning all about Cyber Safety in the past few weeks as part of our Technology studies. Students have covered topics such as protecting our identities online, creating a safe password and cyberbullying. We have also discussed the strategies we can use if we need help when being online and listed the people we could trust to help us if we are unsure. Some important points we discussed were:
- Only adding people we know to our games and apps like Roblox and Messenger Kids
- Blocking or deleting friend requests from strangers
- Keeping our personal information private when online (such as name, address, school name, birthdate and age)
- Creating safe passwords that are hard to guess
- Being friendly with people we communicate with online and treat them with the same respect you would in the playground
- Not opening pop up ads without checking with an adult first
We hope you all have a wonderful Term 1 school break and we are looking forward to seeing you next Term!
