Vision for Learning

Reports

In Terms 1 and 3 the College produces a Progress or Interim report. The aim is for feedback and goals for future improvement to be provided in comment form as well as a grade for academic achievement and attitude. We encourage families to read student reports together and discuss the things that have happened throughout the term. Some may be wonderful achievements, and some may be challenges that need to be addressed. Whatever the case, it is important to remember that the report should provide guidance and encouragement. We accept that as learners we need both things. Effort is crucial to student success, which is why we highly value attitude grades. Maybe this is a good place to start when discussing the report with students. Consider discussions that encourage a `can do attitude'; that look to the future and that acknowledge positive personal attributes that enhance learning.

Years 8-12 Learning Conversations

In an effort to set up strong family and College relationships, students in Year 7 will be invited to share with the student's core teacher about progress and attitude in class in an extended (15 minute) Learning Conversation in Week 2 of Term 2. These Learning Conversations will provide an important opportunity for you to discuss all elements of learning with your student's Year 7 core classroom teacher. All students in Years 7 will receive a written report at the end of Term 2 which will include grades for academic achievement and attitude, but no written comments. A written report will be provided at the end of Terms 2, 3 and 4. Information regarding times and how to make bookings has been emailed to families.

Year 10 Work Experience

Reminder

Work Placement is a compulsory component of our Year 10 Personal Learning Pathways (PLP) Program.  This experience is aimed at offering students a chance to gain an insight into what a job involves and how a workplace operates, develop useful work skills such as team work, initiative, effective communication and develop confidence in learning new tasks.  Organising a placement can be as easy as placing a phone call with an organisation to see if an opportunity is available. Persistence is important as not all businesses or companies are willing to accept Year 10 students. Students who already have paid work or are involved in regular volunteer work may use this involvement as their work placement and require a different form available from their PLP teacher.

All forms related to Work Experience are expected to be returned to school by the end of Week 2 Term 2.  Help with organising a Work Placement is offered to students during PLP lessons or further advice is available from Mrs Fitridge. Students must not attend a placement without the correct forms being completed and returned to the College prior to commencement.

We are also keen to hear from any parents or community members who may be able to host one of our students for Work Experience.  Please contact Annie Fitridge at the College and I can pass on your details to students who may be interested.  Please let me know if you can help in any way.

Medical and Dentistry Admission Testing

Reminder

The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) is an admissions test used by the UCAT ANZ Consortium of universities in Australia and New Zealand for their medical, dental, oral health and clinical science degree programs.

The UCAT ANZ test will replace the UMAT (Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admission Test) for university entry in 2020. The test helps universities to select applicants with the most appropriate abilities and professional behaviors required for new doctors and dentists to be successful in their clinical careers.  It is used in collaboration with other admissions processes such as interviews and academic qualifications.

Year 12 students intending to apply to courses that require UCAT should now access the website to register here https://www.ucat.edu.au/ucat-anz/. The deadline for booking and /or cancelling is Friday 17 May. Testing commences in July with results delivered to each University in September. The cost of the test is $298. Please contact Mrs Fitridge at the College for any further information.

Please note that some pathways to medicine / dentistry / clinical sciences will not require the UCAT.  For some applicants a different test may be required.  For details candidates should refer to the websites of the universities to which they intend to apply.
