Ministry Message

“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3b-4) “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

The end of the term is fast approaching, and along with it the Easter weekend. Easter is the most important celebration in Christian tradition. Some may ask, what is all the fuss about Easter?

Some of us may know what it feels like to anticipate the annual football grand finale each year. Especially, when you get to watch your favourite team as they make it to the Grand Final.   For Christians, Easter is a little bit like that. We celebrate the Grand Final which Jesus won on our behalf. Except, the victory which does not need to be repeated each year, but it was won once, and the results stays for the whole eternity. There won’t be a rematch.

Good Friday celebrates the day our Lord died for our sins on the cross. At one point He said from the cross, “It is finished” (John 19:30). He meant that God had accepted His work on the cross as the penalty for our sins.

Christ’s death on our behalf is the reason God can forgive us and still be just.  His death teaches us the depth and breadth that there should be in our forgiveness of one another.

While holy Friday is tremendous, it was only a prelude to Sunday morning when He was raised from the dead. Godly women had come to see His tomb, but angels made the glorious announcement, “He has risen!” (Luke 24:6).

This is the victory which we celebrate! His death for our sins makes us perfect before the Father, and his resurrection guarantees that we, too, will be raised. Our sins have been forgotten, and the death has been overcome.
