SSSSA Interschool Athletics Carnival

At the end of Week 10 this term, 43 students from Years 8-12 represented Endeavour College at the SSSSA Interschool Athletics Carnival.

Endeavour entered the competition in E grade this year looking to improve on last year’s result of 7th out of eight schools.  This year’s preparation in the lead up to the carnival started much earlier with try-outs and training sessions being held during lunch break. These training sessions helped to improve student skills and identify  the athletes most suitable to represent our school in the range of events. These try-outs could not have happened without the support of the Physical Education staff who we thank immensely for their willingness to help coach and support us.

Being more prepared for the day reflected positively in our performance during the day. Most students competed in up to four events in total and we achieved 22 first places, 15 second places and 8 third places for the day. Congratulations to everyone who placed and achieved new personal bests.

Endeavour finished the day with 634 points overall, coming second to St Martins by only 39 points. The team was incredibly pleased on the final result and the improvement from last year. We look forward to training again next year and moving up a grade into D grade and being competitive against a new list of schools.

Student Achievements

Endeavour College is blessed with many talented athletes, with much of their success often being achieved in their sporting clubs or associations outside of the College. We would like to hear from you if your child has excelled in their chosen sport as we would like to celebrate these achievements in future Anchor articles.

Chelsea Friedrich, Year 8, won Gold 🥇 in the U15 High Jump with a height of 1.73m at the Athletics Australia 2019 Australian Track & Field Championships.  Achieving also a Personal Best, Chelsea, took the National title at the event.  This is an amazing achievement Chelsea - don't stop smiling!

Cooper Newbound, Year 8, has been selected to play Ice Hockey in Japan as part of the 2019 Friendship Games International Peewee Tournament, held in the city of Hachinohe from April 27 to May 5. Cooper will be playing as part of the SA Kangaroos Ice Hockey team with other students from across Australia.

The Tournament will involve countries from Russia, Czechoslovakia, USA, Canada, New Zealand and 3 teams from Australia. The players will be immersed in the Japanese culture during the tournament as they will be billeted with a local family from Hachinohe.

The images in the gallery below showcase Cooper in the Australian team uniform. Cooper is also holding a toy Koala that he will be giving to his host family along with some other gifts.

We wish Cooper all the best for the Tournament and look forward to hearing about his experiences when he returns.
