Harmony Day

Harmony Day Celebrations

Last Thursday, 9th May, the school celebrated our own harmony day with an entertaining assembly which included a number of presentations displaying the incredible diversity of cultures within our community. It commenced with the acknowledgement of country, then straight into an aboriginal dance, where the students from Wanganui Park and Mooroopna SC presented a set of furs to our eldest teacher, Gallina Mackenzie. This was followed by a Harka performed by a mix of students from Wanganui Park and Shepparton High School. About 20 students with Polynesian backgrounds did a wonderful job presenting three different traditional dances to a captivated audience. Lily Walker from Goulburn Valley Grammar sang the beautiful John Lennon song, Imagine. Then we were entertained with a traditional African dance by a group of Congolese, Sudanese and Burundi students from McGuire College. This was followed by a group of Sikh students who, supported by their adult trainer, displayed incredible skills with a number of different fighting instruments. The assembly was concluded with a song from our own Seth Culpan and Georgia Devine. All these groups put hours of practice into their performances culminating in a brilliant assembly. Students were entertained in the front courtyard during lunch with more dancing and foods from all corners of our world. Ours thanks go out to all involved, but especially the main four organisers, Hafza Bakhiet, Seth Culpan, Shannon Naude and Meltem Yildirim.
