SHEPPARTON EDUCATION PLAN
There is much work going into the next stage of transitioning towards the new school, and I was really pleased that so many parents were able to attend last week’s forum to discuss a range of things.
We had approximately 120 parents/students in attendance, and I will have a regular section in each Newslink (starting with the next edition) of answers to frequently asked questions.
We are planning to use our “Partners in Learning” parent meeting times to continue these discussions. This will be in week 8 or 9 of this term, and we will confirm the meeting date and time in the next edition of Newslink.
NAPLAN 2019
As this Newslink goes to print, we are in the middle of administering the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) for all of our Year 7 and 9 students.
In 2019, Wanganui Park is completing this process on-line for the first time and the sessions have run smoothly. Our team of ICT technicians have worked hard to ensure all classroom computers met the requirements of the Department, and their assistance during the test sessions quickly resolved any minor glitches.
To date, feedback from students has been overwhelming positive:
“I liked using the computers to perform the writing test as I could quickly delete my errors and type new thoughts” (Yr 9)
“I stayed on task longer because of the computer. My hand didn’t get sore” (Yr 7)
“I liked that I could hear the instructions as I was reading them” (Yr 7 and Yr 9)
“I type faster than I write, so I was happy to complete NAPLAN this way” (Yr 9)
Testing will continue into next week, with catch-up test sessions scheduled for Wednesday and/or Thursday. Please contact Ms Utber if you have any enquiries in relation to NAPLAN.
SCHOOL BUS AND PARKING CHANGES
The BMX National Championships will be held at the BMX track behind our school from the 20th - 25th May.
Traffic management plan will be:
- The bus loop and all car parking at the rear of the school will be closed from Friday 17th May until Monday 27th May (to include the event set up and pack up).
- Buses will pick up and drop off students at the service road beside Wanganui school oval, adjacent to the McEwen Rd tennis courts. No parent pick up or drop off on this road.
- Parents to pick up and drop off students at the front of the school.
- Excursions will pick up from the front of the school.
- YR 12 students parking available at the car park south of the McEwen Reserve tennis courts.
Greater Shepparton Staff will be supervising the bus area at the start and end of the school day.
Please take extra care as there will be a significant increase in traffic around our school.
