Sports Report

Northern Peninsula Division Swimming Championships
The day’s weather was poles apart to what we experienced on our swimming carnival day, so our Patterson River Secondary College qualifiers were beaming with excitement to represent our College against the other schools in our district at this event.
With a team of 23 students, we headed into the pool with all the students focused on the job that they had to do.
Although nerves were high, our students were great in their efforts and support of each other within the team and showing great sportsmanship to other competitors from opposing schools.
We couldn’t be more proud of the attitude of the students on the day. With some unexpected absences on the day, students who were already on the team, willingly put their hands up to fill gaps in our program.
We would like to congratulate and thank all the students that competed on the day and a special congratulations to the following students who won their events and will now go on to complete in the Southern Zone Championships at MSAC in the coming weeks;
Olivia Staines – 1st, 14-year-old female, 50mt Breaststroke; 0.47.85
Harrison Hart – 1st, 14-year-old male, 50mt Breaststroke; 0. 41.76
Caitlyn Mills – 1st, 12-15-year-old female, 200mt Individual Medley; 3.30.21
Luke Miccoli – 1st 12-20yr male, 400mt Freestyle
Thanks also to Mr Cook, our official starter, Mrs Delaney, our team manager and Mr Bradshaw master of results data entry, who chaperoned our students on the day and to our students who took on extra responsibilities to assist in the running of the Carnival.
Onward and upward to our next event, The Regional Finals….
Intermediate Girls Volleyball
Our Intermediate Girls Volleyball team went to McClelland College to compete against the other school in the district.
With our training sessions completed, we headed into the event with a quiet confidence. Playing in and winning 3 games would see us into the grand final.
Our girls beat Carrum Downs 2 sets vs 0 in their first match and beat Elizabeth Murdoch College 2 sets vs 0 in their second match.
We went into our last game needing a win to progress through to the grand final. In a 3 set nail biter, our girls came through with a 2 sets to 1 win against Mt Erin which put us into the final against McClelland College who were a very worthy opponent.
We had done our homework throughout the day and knew what we were up against heading into the final. Throughout the day, our girls serving and returns continued to grow in continuity, confidence and strength. All the girls played their roles beautifully on the court and had the front of the net covered continually throughout the match. And, with Eve Mooneys’ spiking ability and Sage Kirbys’ serving prowess, we certainly were giving McClelland College a run for their money.
Our girls ended up coming a very pleasing second on the day learning a lot through the process.
Thankyou to my team consisting of;
Madison Evans, Ebony Karp, Alexandra Mason, Janeal Meertens, Eve Mooney, Tasmin Weston and Sage Kirby.
I would also like to thank our special guest coach Mrs Chetty whose advice was invaluable.
