Performing Arts News

March News
As always, it is busy times in the Performing Arts Department. As a faculty we have welcomed three new staff members who are settling nicely into their new roles. We have also been very lucky to have received a facelift in some of our Performing Arts classrooms. A fresh coat of paint and that new carpet smell has put a spring in our steps and a smile on our faces.
Students in Year 7 have now fully commenced their Instrumental Music lessons and it’s wonderful to hear the dulcet tones of beginner clarinets, flutes and trumpets fill the hallways. Mr Mitchelmore’s ever popular percussion group is also off to a banging start.
Mrs Griffiths has the Year 8 Concert Band very organised and playing some popular tunes to tap their feet to. They are hosting an Open Rehearsal in the coming days which is an excellent opportunity for parents and friends of this performing group to come in and support our young up and coming music students.
Dance is well underway with new teacher Ms Emily Davison. She is supporting some of the senior students in running Dance Extension group during Thursday lunchtime and welcomes students of all ages to come along and participate in the art of dance.
How fantastic it was to see our Drama students showcase their talents at the College Open Night. Students Nikola Tomic, Adam Sutaman, Phoenix Grant and Juan De Lange were loitering in the hallways of the Performing Arts department, practicing the art of mime and impressing all those that visited our area. Ms Tanya Wade, our enthusiastic drama teacher, was proud of their dedication and courage on the night. Ms Davison is supporting some of the senior students in running a Drama Club on Friday lunchtimes and encourages all students to come along to M5 for some drama fun and games.
