Peer Support

Throughout this term the Year 11 Peer Support Leaders have run a successful program to assist our new Year 7 students' transition into secondary school. It has been great to see the positive interaction between our Year 7s and the senior students. During these sessions students have not only played get to know you games but also engaged in discussions around communication, bullying, cyber bullying and spoken about possible strategies to overcome these.

We would like to thank the Year 11 students for taking the time to be involved in this program to ensure that the Year 7s feel welcome in their new school community.

During week 5, Year 7s went to CYC Phillip Island to participate in Year 7 camp. Students were involved in ‘get to know you’ activities in their mentor groups as soon as we got there. Students then set up in their cabins and got organised for the first round of activities. It was great to see all students get involved in the giant swing, crate climb, swimming in the pool and making chocolate truffles.

On Tuesday afternoon we went to Cowes beach and enjoyed a day of beach activities and swimming. We also held the famous tug of war competition. Congratulations to 7E and 7C who won their respective competitions. We will hold a grand final here at the school to crown the Year 7 Champions.

Well done to all Year 7s who attended camp and had a positive experience, getting to know students and staff as well as gaining new skills along the way.

Year 7 Cyber Safety

On Thursday the 29th of March Patterson River Secondary College had Jordan and Jaz from the Melbourne Wellbeing Program, come into our Performing Arts Centre and put on a performance for the Year 7 students, to teach us about Cyber Bullying and Cyber Safety.  Jordan and Jaz did an amazing performance, teaching us how to handle bullying to do with yourself, other people and even how to know if you were the one bullying. They made the show fun and very enjoyable, and at the end of the performance they had 6 random people come down from the audience and play a game. The game was two teams answering questions as fast as they could and at the end both teams got a special wrist band that had the wellbeing website and three words to remember. Jordan and Jaz then answered more of our questions about cyber bullying and bullying in general.
