Diversity Week including Harmony Day
During Diversity Week we celebrated both National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence and International Harmony Day.
The key messages included: Inclusiveness, Respect and Belonging.
All students and staff were invited to wear an orange ribbon to show their support for cultural diversity.
The colour orange signifies freedom of ideas, encouragement of mutual respect and social communication sparking meaningful conversations.
On Friday 15 of March, 2019 the Frankston Youth Services parked their bus on the oval and helped SRC students run fun lunch time activities such as Giant Jenga, Connect 4 and African Drumming. It was a fantastic day enjoyed by all students. The Zooper Doopers and Snow Cones went down a treat!
A BIG Thank you to all students who presented key messages at assemblies and supported lunch time activities. Also, special thanks to Frankston Youth Services for their contributions.
World's Greatest Shave
The world’s greatest shave was held on a very sunny Friday 16th March on the oval in front of the entire school during lunchtime. This event coincided with Harmony Day and is part of an important week for the school community – diversity week.
The participants who chose to ‘be brave and shave’ were Year 10 student Kayden Crombie and Year 8 coordinator My Jay Cashmore. With locks flowing, Mr Cashmore nervously sat atop his stool with eager students (like crows surrounding a carcass) awaiting the opportunity to put the clippers to the test. There was no finess as students who had been kind enough to support such a wonderful cause took revenge on poor Mr Cashmore. Kayden, on the other hand, had made a much wiser and safer choice by getting staff member Tracy Delaney (qualified hairdresser) to calmly go about business as usual. Like a scene out of Edward Scissorhands, the cries for mercy from Mr Cashmore could be heard echoing the wetlands, until a mighty roar erupted as the shave concluded and an all but bald head arose!
It was a fantastic day and a really fun experience that was extremely well supported by the College community, friends and family of both Kayden and Mr Cashmore, both raising well over $1,400 each in support for leukemia and other blood related illnesses”.
