LIBRARY NEWS

This Week in the Library

Welcome to Week 2 and another busy time in the library, Book Week celebrations are about to begin! Apart from reading more great shortlisted Book of the Year nominations to all primary classes, this week the Book Fair comes to the library.

2019 Book Fair

As part of the lead up to the 2019 Book Week celebrations, we are excited to be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair during Weeks 2 and 3 in the school library.

The theme of our Scholastic Book Fair is Dino-Mite, where we hope you will Stomp, Chomp, and Read! It’s a fun reading event that brings the books kids want to read right into our school. It’s a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading level and families have the opportunity to purchase books that their children want to read, while also supporting the school.

The fair will run for two weeks and there are various times throughout the day to come along and purchase books (see opening hours below), however, there will also be a special day on Monday, 5 August 2019 where the library will be open all day to visit. Money may be sent in with children to buy books and we will also have an EFTPOS machine available for families to use.

Book Fair dates: Wednesday, 31 July to Friday, 9 August 2019

Shopping hours: 8.30-9am, 1-2pm and after school 3.20- 4 pm.

Special Family Day: Monday, 5 August 2019 – Open from 8.30am to 4 pm.

2019 Book Week Parade

Save the date as the highly anticipated Book Week Parade will be held on Wednesday, 21 August 2019 from 12-1pm. Primary students will all have a chance to dress up as their favourite book character and have an opportunity to parade for the school to enjoy. Over the last week, it has been interesting hearing the children’s dress-up ideas and I can’t wait to see them all in the coming weeks. I also made them promise they won’t leave it to the day before to ask for an elaborate costume from you, so I hope you all have enough time to get your outfits organised. Please let me know if you need any assistance, I know we can find something that your child will enjoy.

What Are We Reading This Week?

This term across the Primary we are reading books from the CBCA shortlisted Books of the Year. K-2 are enjoying ‘The Dress Up Box’ by Patrick Guest and Stage 2 are listening to ‘Grandma Z’ by Daniel Gray- Barnett. If you would like to watch the book trailer for this book, visit here. Finally, Stage 3 are continuing reading stories from the Picture Book of the Year category with ‘Girl on Wire’ by Lucy Estela. Each week we will be using a ‘Colour, Symbol, Image’ worksheet to investigate techniques used by the author and illustrator of each book to encourage deeper reflection of the message behind the text.

Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC)

Although it feels like the challenge has been going on forever, the end is nigh. The PRC has one month to go and the number of students completing the challenge is increasing each week. Please remember that once your child has completed their reading log online, they need to print this list and return it to the library for me to validate this. If you have trouble printing this sheet at home, please let me know as I can log onto your child’s account at school and print this off. Keep going everyone, we are getting close to finishing!

I look forward to you seeing you over the coming weeks of the Book Fair, please come along and take a look at some of the library displays while you enjoy buying some great books for your child.

Have a great week,

Mrs Toni Fraser
