GEOGRAPHY EXCURSION

The VO Introduction to Geography students have been studying Environmental Change and Management this semester. It was planned for us to go to Mungo National Park to study wind erosion on October 24, however, given the rain, we took a sharp U-turn in our learning and instead participated in a full day excursion investigating water pollution in the Sunraysia Region.

We went to Lake Cullulleraine (a man-made lake,) Cardross Lakes (an irrigation drainage basin), and Lake Ranfurly (a Murray River salt interception scheme). We conducted water and soil tests at each site to determine which lake had the most polluted water. Dylan Butcher, an Environmental Consultant with Pinion Advisory, joined us to explain the vegetation present, the geographical apps he uses in his work, and the groundwater at each site, and share his passion for Geography.

During the day, we experienced rain, but it warmed up in the afternoon to a warm 26 degrees with blue skies! We arrived back at the college covered in mud and exhausted after a great day out. Thank you to Mrs Andrea Chamberlain for joining us.
