COMPETITIONS

The Computational and Algorithmic Thinking Competition (CAT) was held in Term 2. Five students participated with some pleasing results.

  • Distinction: Riley Cox, Year 7
  • Credit: Emily Birch, Year 10; Caterina De Maria, Year 12
  • Participation: Harneer Singh, Year 9; Ethan Prescott, Year 12

Earlier this term, 22 students participated in the Australian Mathematics Competition.

PROJECTS

Each class in Years 7 to 9 has recently been completing a project. Projects allow students to apply the mathematics they have learnt to real-life contexts. Year 9 students designed a garden as part of their unit on Measurement. Year 8 students have created surveys to collect, display and analyse data. Year 7 students have been exploring patterns and finding rules as part of their unit on Algebra.

YEARS 7 TO 9 HOMEWORK PROGRAM

A reminder to parents that students in Years 7 to 9 must be completing modules for homework each week. As a general guide, students should be spending:

  • Year 7: 20 minutes twice per week
  • Year 8: 30 minutes twice per week
  • Year 9: 40 minutes twice per week

Completing homework regularly assists students in creating positive work habits, which will be valuable in their senior years. It also ensures that at least six modules per cycle are completed, which aids in maintaining the required growth rate.
