Principal Report

As we cross over to the second half of Term 4, many of our students will be engaged in studying and preparing for exams, completing assessment tasks and continuing to maximise their learning until the end of the year. Despite the continuous rain both staff and students have continued to participate as fully as possible across all subject areas. It was fantastic to hear and see about the Year 9 City Experience excursion. The Year 9 Program was postponed many times over the last two years due to Covid restrictions and finally our Year 9 students were about to have a taste of social learning more formally away from the classroom. Our students conducted themselves impeccably across the city sites and on public transport.

Recently, Brand Architects entered the College into an architectural design competition. I am not sure of the outcome as yet, however, I am featured in the photo with Brand Architects Lyndon Wade and Farnia Askari. I have used many of their professional photographs of the facilities in this newsletter to remind all of us of how fortunate the students are to have access to such buildings! Along this theme, I have also had the opportunity work with a group of our Student Representative Council. I have sought their advice and support in collecting feedback about our canteen as well as asking some of the Senior students input into the type of furniture that will support studying next year in the Senior Lounge. I have included below some of the detail from the very professional report below and draft plans for the Senior lounge.

Enrolment and Recruitment Update

We continue to have exciting times ahead in 2023. It will be our first year of having all year levels across the College. Currently, our enrolment numbers for 2023 stand at over 1230 students.  I have been actively recruiting teachers for next year and we currently have 22 teachers newly employed for 2023. We are nearly there! There is an Australia wide teacher shortage so this year has been more challenging than last year to find staff who will be able to support our students to learn best.

Highlights

I would like to mention how impressed I was with the student presentation and behaviour at the Year 10 Formal. Everyone involved had a positive time and the event ran smoothly. I would like to thank the Senior school team for their organisation and commitment to making this event happen for our students.

When Edgars Creek Primary school opened last year, the Principal, Ann Turner-Calleri and I had many discussions on how our students can join to do some learning and social activities together. Due to the covid restrictions last year we had to put that to the side. It has been with great pride that we can now applaud our teachers and students who have been working together on projects. There are two current design projects happening across the schools. Firstly, Year 10 Textiles class are co-designing with Year 1 students a character from the storybook "Pig the Pug." Once the students make the soft toy they will then present the character to their primary school buddy. This project encourages literacy, design, communication and collaboration skills. Continuing with this theme, we have some ECSC students designing mascots for the ECPS Houses. They have the same named Houses as the secondary college. It is very exciting for me as the Principal to be able to see this cross age learning. I have included a few photos:

In final I would like to say good luck to all our Year 11, 10 and 9 students as  they continue with their exams and exam preparation.
