Around the Classrooms

Foundation

Students have participated in a range of learning activities this week! In Literacy, they explored ‘statements’ and ‘commands’ as sentence types. Some examples are ‘Sit with the 5ls’ and ‘Clean your teeth’. Students are starting to explore how to use a range of sentence types and have loved opportunities extend the amount of writing they complete.

Students have explored addition and subtraction, using strategies such as counting all, counting on, subitising and near doubles. They have enjoyed opportunities to use materials when problem solving and are working toward describing how they get to their answer.

Thank you to all students for their enthusiasm, effort, and participation!

Congratulations to our award winners from Week 3!

Year 1 and 2

This term students are exploring The Human Body in Content Knowledge. So far, we have learnt about the skeletal, muscular and respiratory systems. We have learnt about the number of bones we have, our biggest muscle, and how oxygen travels through the body! We have used all of this new information to write complex sentences. The students have become very confident with expanding sentences, using conjunctions, and beginning sentences with subordinating conjunctions.

This fortnight in numeracy, students have been looking at measurement. The students have been collecting informal measurements using MAB ones, icy-pole sticks, pencils and feet to collect data then display how tall they are or how big their feet are and displaying this in a graph. Students have been challenged by understanding the language as well as understanding when using some objects, they may be the same height as their peers. It has been great trialling informal ways to measure the height, width or length of objects.

Visual Art

The students have made a fantastic start to term 4 in Visual Art. The Junior Students have been working on creating pipe cleaner superheroes. They have decorated the head, attached the body made of beads and straws, and finally attached a cape with an initial stitched onto the back. Well done Juniors they look great. The Senior Students have spent the first three weeks of term working on their bean mosaic plates. Students have been working carefully to stick down a variety of beans over their hand drawn designs. We will be able to move onto painting them next week. Thanks to all the families who have donated old newspapers, they will used across all grades next week, as we move onto using paint.

Year 3 and 4

This term students have begun learning about the human body - specifically the Skeletal System, the Muscular System and the Nervous System. Let's find out what students have enjoyed so far...

Arijana - I do like learning about all the different parts of the body and how they work together as systems.

Oliver - I have been interested to learn how the brain helps the body to work. That has been really interesting!

Imogen - It has been good to learn how the different bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons and organs work. They all have their one job but it’s been interesting learning what else they can do too!

Milo - I have enjoyed learning all about the Nervous System. The Nervous System has two parts, the spinal cord and the brain! The Nervous System controls the 5 senses.

In Maths, we have been investigating length, area and perimeter. Students spent some time last week designing their own dream bedroom, house or backyard. We then had to calculate the perimeter and area of their features. Check out some examples below.
