Ms Brea Terris

Dear Families,

It is nice to have some warmer weather this week and how lovely that it will be warm at the start of next week to begin our swimming program.

A huge thank you to Miss Kelly and Mr Hodgson for organising the program and navigating some challenges such as the temperature of the pool with the absence of hot weather, organising bookings with the indoor pool closed and sourcing staff to ensure our program is ran to the highest standard.

Swimming is part of the Victorian Curriculum and all students are expected to attend and participate. Please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions about the program.

Swimming is fully funded by the Department of Education and Training.

The Swimming in Schools initiative provides funding for the delivery of quality swimming and water safety education so all students have the opportunity to:

-learn how to swim

-develop lifelong skills in water safety to reduce their risk of drowning and injury.

By the end of primary school, it is anticipated that students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills identified in the Victorian Water Safety Certificate.

The certificate is awarded when a student can:

-swim 50m continuously

-answer water safety-based questions

-perform simple rescues.

Please ensure your child's note is returned to school by Monday.

2023

Last week we had our first whole school transition session. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to participate in some activities in the year level they will be moving to in 2023. This transition is valuable in ensuring students develop good relationships moving into 2023.

Students will have two more sessions before they meet their teacher for 2023 on Friday 16th November. Please note this a change in date from the last newsletter.

in 2023 we are looking at having 10 classrooms with an increased enrolment. The structure of classes will be released to families over the coming weeks.

5/6 Camp

Our year 5/6 students will return from their camp later today. They have been enjoying a range of experiences at Sovereign Hill. I have heard that the students enjoyed the Sound and Light show and have been participating in a range of experiences such as candle making. I hear they slept well last night after going to the trampoline centre. Thank you Mrs Caldwell and the other 5/6 teachers who organised this camp. We over came many hurdles to finally get too Ballarat. The students will enjoy a day camp in Swan Hill on Monday.

3/4 Camp

Our 3/4 students are off to camp next Wednesday. We wish them a fantastic time away. Thanks to Mr Quirk and Miss Kelly who have organised the camp in Halls Gap. it sounds like an amazing camp.

Colour Run

We are excited to announce after many events were cancelled at the school due to COVID 19, that we are hosting a Colour Run on Thursday 15th December. The community evening will start at 5.30pm. We encourage families to bring along a picnic tea and enjoy the afternoon. This will be a chance to bring our community together and celebrate a fantastic year of learning at SHNPS.

Road Safety

With some works continuing to take place at the school, I encourage families to continue to follow the road rules around the school. It is important that our crossings are used to ensure roads are crossed safely. Please note that Police and Council are patrolling during pick up and drop off times to ensure all community members are safe.

Valuable items

We understand that staff and/or students may sometimes like to bring items of personal property to school.

The Department of Education and Training does not have insurance for personal property of staff, students and visitors. SHNPS does not take responsibility for items of personal property that are lost, stolen or damaged at school or during school activities.

Damage to personal property brought to school is the responsibility of the owner of that property.

SHNPS encourages staff and students not to bring items of value to school, or to obtain appropriate insurance for such items.

The school is unable to take any responsibility for lost, damaged or missing items, nor follow up such instances. For this reason, families are encouraged to leave valuables or ‘special’ items at home.

Christmas Raffle

This year we will be running a Christmas Raffle to fundraise to complete projects and purchase resources for the 2023 school year.

We are asking families to donate items to the raffle to create hampers. Some example of donations could be toys, Christmas decorations and non perishable food.

Please send donations along to the school by Monday 12th December. Raffle tickers will be sent home to families. The raffle will be drawn at the Colour Run.

Have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards,

Brea
