8A Immigration Museum Excursion
8A Humanities visited the Melbourne Immigration Museum on Wednesday, 2 November.
They have been studying the causes and impact of migration. The museum is situated in the original Customs House built in 1878. Students were amazed by the size and architecture of the Customs Hall. Students were able to follow interactive journeys migrants have made and watched a video detailing experiences of different people. They participated in immigration interviews and undertook the original dictation tests for migrants which gave them a broader understanding of the ‘White Australia’ policy. It was great to be able to explore in person, rather than remotely!
It was interesting because we got to see the history of our city. Jasper Howell
We have not had an excursion since Year 5 so it was great to experience an excursion outside of school and learn from experts at the museum. Ruby Beck
I recommend people visit the museum because it was interesting to learn about our history and amazing to see the Customs Hall. Molly Strickland
