From the Principal

Dear Killara Families,

Our school is a busy place of learning, and students are engaging in deep learning experiences across our campus.

Excursions, assessments, induction assemblies, incursions, rehearsals, sports and many other learning experiences have been taking place. I congratulate all students on their dedication in striving towards their personal best.

Tesla Incursion – Coming Up

A rare learning opportunity will be available to Killara High School students as we welcome a team from Tesla to our school on Tuesday 22nd November, 2022 at 3:15 pm. This is an optional incursion.  The aim of this incursion is to inspire our students in their learning within STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) topics. If you are interested in your child participating in this free event at Killara High School, please opt-in using Compass. Parents will need to pick their children up from this event, as this event runs after school from 3:15 pm to 4:30 pm and the regular bus transport will not be operating at this time. The incursion will take place in the school's main quad. We will have a Tesla electric vehicle on site, and the Tesla representatives will cover the following points in their presentation:

  1. Career pathways in the field electric vehicles. An outline of the work our Tesla representatives undertake at Tesla.
  2. What are the key features of a Tesla vehicle?
  3. What are the benefits of an electric vehicle?
  4. How does a Tesla electric vehicle work? Insight into this technology.
  5. Advice for young people aspiring to work in this field.

School Musical – Annie. May 2023

Our students have commenced their rehearsals for our upcoming school musical Annie.

Tickets go on sale 1st of February. Our teachers have been guiding our students through dance routines, songs, scripts and acting techniques. Thank you to the entire team of student performers and musicians, and our dedicated classroom teachers. We look forward to welcoming our community to this wonderful event in 2023.

Year 12 COLA Opening

Last week we welcomed Year 12 to their COLA. Year 12 students enjoyed a BBQ lunch and came together to enjoy a celebration marking the commencement of their final year of school.

Mobile Phone Policy

Our new school mobile phone policy will be implemented from the start of 2023. This policy requires all students to place their mobile phones in Yondr pouches for the duration of the school day. The aims of this policy are to support deep learning, improve social interactions and support student health. If a student has their phone visible at any time throughout the school day, the phone will then be handed-in to the front office, and parents will be informed. All students will be given their Yondr pouches at the commencement of 2023. Exemptions will be available for students with health conditions.

Here is a case study of a school that has implemented Yondr pouches: https://www.nbnnews.com.au/2019/10/22/mobiles-banned-at-lismore-high-school/

Kindest regards,
