From the Acting Principal

I am guessing I speak to most families when I say, it is time for some dry weather and sunshine! However, this has not dampened or deterred our students who have set off on camps.  Last week we had Year 7s rowing down the Glenelg River and Year 3/4s pushing outside their comfort zones at the Roses Gap camp, and from all reports the rain did not slow any of the students down. The staff were very impressed by the grit and resilience shown by everyone and saw growth and maturity throughout the activities.  This week, our Year 5s are off on their Sovereign Hill excursion and on Friday the Year 8/9 Outdoor Education class is due to go hiking. Thank you to all staff involved in the camps; it is wonderful to have our students back out and experiencing camps after two years of interruptions.

I enjoyed connecting with our very special boarding families on Wednesday night via zoom. We are so fortunate to have the support of so many wonderful parents. I would especially like to acknowledge and give thanks to those boarding families who will be leaving us at the end of 2022. We hope that you will keep in touch and continue your connection with the college.

Tonight, we have the Engage Information Night, and we look forward to inviting all of our 2023 Year 7 families onsite to learn more about starting at The Hamilton and Alexandra College Senior School.  This is milestone for all students, and we are here to support the students and parents through the transition.

Unfortunately, last week, Mrs Bonita Silva made the challenging decision to take up a new opportunity in 2023 to be closer to family. Bonnie started at the College in 2017. She is an amazingly dedicated and passionate educator who has had a significant impact on the lives of many of our students. She has instilled a love of Drama in all students who have had the privilege of being in her productions or in her drama classes. We will be talking about the success of Matilda for years to come!

She is a much loved and respected Head of House, and our Learmonth staff and students are going to miss her enormously. Bonnie has also been a key member of our Staff Wellbeing Team and she was the driver and brains trust behind the care packages that were delivered to all staff during remote learning.

We wish Bonnie nothing but happiness, she will be sorely missed
