Coles School Sport Vouchers

During the last few weeks of Term 3 our equipment from Coles arrived. Earlier in the year the sport leaders were collecting coles tickets. We would like to thank everyone that donated them. Our final total of tickets was somewhere around 39,000 tickets. We got a lot of sports equipment that will be very much enjoyed by the students at St.James, here is a photo of most of the equipment.

We are very grateful for all of this wonderful equipment. It will be put to great use.

Thank you all very much for donating the tickets.

The Sport Leaders 2018

Hoop Time

During the last week of Term 3, St James had a number of students represent the school at Hoop Time, an inter school basketball competition held between all schools in the Holt District.

The grade 5 / 6 year levels sent 7 teams and the grade 3 / 4 year levels sent 6.  Thank you very much to all parents who coached, scored or assisted in any other way.

Three of our teams were lucky enough to make it through to the regional finals. The All Star girls from Year 5 / 6 as well as the Year 4 All Star Girls team. The Year 3 / 4 All Star Boys team also made it through.

The 5 / 6 All Star Girls team played their finals at MSAC on Tuesday the 16th October. The tournament was very competitive and our girls played very well, they won one of their four games and only lost one of those games by 1 point.  Well done to Isabella S, Mia M, Tamsin N, Sadie N, Lucinda B, Dakota C, Frankie I, Eva M, Sophie P and Khalila W.

A huge thank you to Derek Stewart for coaching the team.

The 3 / 4 regional finals for both teams will be held at MSAC on Monday the 12th November. A CareMonkey will be sent out with more details closer to the date.

T-20 Cricket

This year we had signed up to be apart of the Holt District T-20 cricket day which was to be held on the 16th November for any year 3-6 students wishing to be involved. Unfortunately, we were one of only two schools interested in competing on this day, therefore the competition will not be going ahead. I am very sorry to any students who were particularly looking forward to this day.

Staff vs Students Netball Match

Eirene N has organised this year's Staff v Student netball match, where the Year 6's play against the very sporty Teachers.

This annual event will take place at 1pm this Friday 26th October and all parents and friends are welcome.

St James SWIMMING PROGRAM

The St James Swimming Program commences

Monday 19 November and will be held at

SwimRight Sandringham 150 Tulip St.,Cheltenham.

Phone No. (03) 9584 3777

The annual Swimming Program will run from Monday 19 November to Wednesday 28 November,  concluding with the St James Swimming Carnival on Thursday 29 November.

Session times and further information will be communicated via CareMonkey, but prior to advising exact timings,  each class travel by bus to attend 40 minute sessions at SwimRight Sandringham from 8:30am - 12:30pm (Eldest to Youngest).

Swimming is recognised as an important part of the children's personal development and their attainment of life skills.  It is expected that all children participate in the swimming program.   Teachers will try to ensure that the level of the program will suit the child's individual needs.  If a child has to miss an individual session, a letter will be required stating the reason for the absence.  If a child cannot participate in the program at all, it will be necessary to provide a doctor's certificate.

During the swimming program, appetites usually increase and the younger children often get very tired, as there is a great deal of energy expended.  During this time, it is very important that all children get to bed early.

House coloured caps are compulsory for the actual swimming carnival and are available for purchase from the office @ $8.00 each.    They are not required for the lead up swimming program, but it is recommended that students wear a swimming cap at all times when in the pool.

Swimming goggles are also a necessity for swimming lessons.  Over the two week program, all students wear their Sports Uniform for ease of changing.  Please ensure your child wears their bathers under their sports uniform, as this ensures a fast start to our lessons.   Whilst children must wear runners to school, they also need to bring thongs to change into before they depart on the bus.  All clothing & possessions are to be clearly labelled i.e., towels, bathers, underwear, sports uniforms and thongs.  Please ensure that all swimming belongings are in a bag other than the school bag and that this bag has your child's name clearly visible.

Any parents who would like to assist with the children in Foundation and Year 1, will be required to have an up to date Working with Children's Check.
