The Week in Music

Foundation Dancing

Moving to music is a big focus for Foundation students. This week we danced to a song called “Dance like you got Ants in your Pants” by Eric Herman. The children had a great time!

Drawing to music gives children a chance to listen and reflect how music makes them feel that can be expressed through drawing. The children were listening to some relaxation music, then ‘Spring’ from the Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi, and then some classical Indian raga music.

The Year 2 and 3’s have been singing an African traditional song called Che-Che Koolay. It is a staple in the Orff music education tradition, combining percussion and singing to a tune which the students love.

Year 4,5 & 6 Music

Year 4, 5 and 6 have all been undertaking a body percussion unit which entails having to learn how to notate rhythms, and then apply various body percussion sounds to those rhythms. At this stage the students are formulating their rhythms.
