Our Catholic Faith

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3: 16-17).
Lord Jesus Christ, help us to deeply comprehend the strength and power of the Holy Spirit in our lives – our entry into the infinite that brings God’s life to birth in us. We ask this in your name. Amen

Much has happened in the faith journey of the College this term as we look forward to remember and celebrate the pinnacle of the Catholic Church, the life, death and resurrection of our lord, Jesus Christ. After celebrating the College opening mass in late February, the student leadership group, along with Sue Edwards and I coordinated the Ash Wednesday ceremony, held on the basketball courts.
Each student was asked to bring in a non-perishable item of food for the less fortunate people in the Philippines, with particular emphasis on food that contained meat and fish. The school community rose to the challenge and the students and families donated an enormous amount of food. This food was donated passed on the Holy Spirit of Freedom Community, who will organise for its distribution to the people of the Philippines.
Additionally, six students and I travelled to St Kevin’s College, Toorak on Thursday 2 March, to participate in the annual Archbishop’s Conversation with Student Leaders. The occasion allowed our student leaders to meet and talk to other student leaders from Catholic schools around the Melbourne archdiocese about issues surrounding faith, life and school. The day culminated in an open discussion where His Grace, Archbishop Hart, responded to a diverse range of questions by the young people of the assembly.
Finally, last Friday we celebrated the feast day of Melbourne’s patron saint, St Patrick at St Patrick’s Cathedral, East Melbourne. The cathedral was full of students and staff from catholic schools in the Melbourne archdiocese who celebrated the Mass, sung by the principle celebrant, his grace, Archbishop Hart.
In the horizons, as we prepare to stop and pause for the first term holidays, let us be reminded of the Lenten journey and the renewed promise we made in Christ as we await his resurrection.
