Feast of the Assumption

Thursday 15 August the Universal Catholic Church celebrates the Feast Day of the Assumption of Our Lady when according to our faith, the Holy Mother, “having completed her course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory”.

Although defined as an article of faith by Pope Pius XII just over half a century ago, the Assumption of Our Lady into heaven has been accepted from back to the earliest of Christian times.  The Assumption signals the end of Mary’s earthly life and marks her return to heaven to be reunited with Jesus.  This Holy Day of Obligation calls Catholics to attend Mass and so here at St Pius a number of classes will be attending Our Lady of Dolours Church, both the 9.00am and 12.15pm Masses.

The Feast of the Assumption Mass Times times for surrounding parishes are listed below.

  • Our Lady of Dolours, Chatswood 7am, 9am, 12.15pm, 7pm
  • St Thomas’, Willoughby 9.00am
  • St Leonard’s Naremburn 9.00am
  • Our Lady of Good Counsel, Forestville 9.15am, 7.00pm
  • St Martin de Porres, Davidson 9.15am
  • St Anthony’s in the Field, Terry Hills 10.30am
  • Holy Family, Lindfield 9.15am
  • Corpus Christi, St Ives 9.15am
  • Our Lady Help of Christians, Epping 12.15pm
  • St Gerard Majella, Carlingford 9.30am

Social Justice Through The Arts

On Sunday 4 August students from Years 8, 9 and 10 were treated to a songwriting and composition workshop from Luke Byrne of Gondwana Voices and the Belvoir Theatre. The boys were tasked with writing a song for Edmund Rice Education Australia’s ‘Social Justice Through the Arts’ symposium, intended as a means for students to increase awareness of social justice issues through artistic means.

This will be an ongoing project for the students involved, with the final song to be composed, refined and recorded, before being presented to the school as part of our Founder’s Day festivities later this year.

Celebration of International Youth Day at

Willowood Nursing Home

In celebration of the International Day for Youth, residents from Willowood Nursing Home hosted CIP volunteers from Year 10 and 11 for a lively gathering. This involved the residents presenting prayers and poems that they had made in honour of the boys’ companionship and service over the year.  Many thanks to Mr Alexander Listo for facilitating and taking students to the nursing home each week.
