The reading from the Gospel of Luke (Luke 1:46-55) is the basis of the beautiful prayer of Our Lady, “The Magnificat”.
THE MAGNIFICAT
The Prayer of Mary
Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord,
and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,
for he has looked with favour on the lowliness of his servant.
Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation.
“He has shown strength with his arm;
he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts.
He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
and lifted up the lowly;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and sent the rich away empty.
“He has helped his servant Israel,
in remembrance of his mercy,
according to the promise he made to our ancestors.
to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”

This was a great opportunity for the boys and I thank and congratulate Mr Stollery and the staff who took the Year 7 students on the Ski Trip. A special experience that those boys will never forget. Thanks to Mr Stollery, Mr Stearn, Mr Virgona, Mr Kennedy, Mr Donovan, Ms Bryant, Mr Donnelly, Mrs Dempsey, Ms O’Brien, Mr Formosa, Mrs Doyle and Mr Russo.
Reports and photos from the trip can be found on the Parent & Student Matters Page.
The HSC trials continue to progress well. The papers have been challenging but certainly the boys are responding well and the organisation from Mr Masters, Mr Bell, Mr Damo and the Studies Coordinators has been excellent. Next week Year 12 will have their final school retreat. Please keep them in your prayers.
The present Year 8 students and their parents attended an excellent Subject Selection Evening last week. Any parent enquiries should be directed to Mr Ticli, Mr Damo or the relevant Subject Coordinator.
What a great weekend of sport last weekend. The large proportion of the ISA teams played against our brother EREA school, St Patrick’s College Strathfield, with great competition in Rugby and Football.
In the First XV Rugby we defeated SPC 22-20 in a thrilling match and in an equally entertaining game, our First XI Football earned a 3-3 draw which leaves them undefeated throughout the competition proper. Rugby doesn’t have semi-finals but Football does and St Pius X College has 13 of our 15 teams in the Football Semi-Finals this weekend. Congratulations and best wishes to all our players.
It was with great pride that we witnessed a fantastic Australian victory over the NZ All Blacks in Game 1 of the Bledisloe Cup on Saturday. Michael Hooper is well known as the Wallaby Captain and we are very proud of Luke Jones who played off the bench on Saturday. Luke was also in the 2009 HSC Class at SPX. Congratulations Michael and Luke. We will be cheering you on in Game 2!
Patrick McManus (Class of 2004) graduated from ADFA in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science (Aviation and Geography majors) and has just been through the ‘Wings’ ceremony. This is a promotion ceremony, the culmination of many months of studies and exams including navigation, meteorology and weapons operations.
Congratulations Patrick!
