Principal's Report

Principal's Report

The second half of Term 3 is a very significant period of time for Cowra High.  Our Year 12 students are now into HSC mode.  We have had the practical components of HSC Dance, Drama and Industrial Technology marked.  Our Visual Arts students’ major works have been shipped to Sydney for marking, while our Japanese language students have completed their speaking exams.  With Design and Technology projects marked on 19 September, we will have completed the practical components.  It is important that students now stay focused leading up to their written exams.  There will be many opportunities to farewell Year 12 and many opportunities for Year 12 to celebrate the achievement of a great milestone.  Yet at this crucial time, we need to  continue to support our students to keep the end game in sight and maintain study routines and schedules.

Speaking of examinations, Year 11 will commence their end of course exams Monday week.  I hope all are hard at work reviewing work and working on exam techniques.  Please encourage your students to seek assistance from their teachers if they need help studying or preparing for these exams.

This coming Monday Cowra High will have a group of Year 11 students in the audience of the ABC’s Q&A program.  I encourage all to watch on the night or via iView.  You never know, one of our students might be chosen to ask a question of the panel.

This Friday we have the first round of the CKC cup against Kelso High here at Cowra High.  The following week we will travel to Orange to compete against Canobolas High.  This is our annual sporting challenge for Year 7-10 students. As I have reported in the past, the aim of this competition is sportsmanship and enjoyment. This has proven to be a very popular and successful format over the last few years, with all the competitors giving their best, but never losing sight of why we play sport.

Have a great fortnight.

Sydney success

The Girls 13 years relay team competed in Sydney on Wednesday at the Combined High Schools carnival.

The girls ran a 56.81 sec 400 m relay time which was a PB of 6 seconds from Dubbo.  The team came 13th in NSW, which is a fantastic achievement .

They wish to thank Ms Rhodes for training the team and being a super coach.

I look forward to seeing the team perform again in the years to come .
