Wiradjuri Language & Culture Workshop
A number of Cowra High School’s Indigenous students travelled to Orange Museum for a Wiradjuri Language and Culture workshop on Tuesday. Students were taught the correct pronunciation of Wiradjuri words and delivered an Acknowledgement to Country in language.
They also learnt about the many varieties and uses of native flora and fauna, tools that were used and the “supermarket” that exists in a Kurrajong tree. Students gained an insight into traditional ways from Aunty Alice, who was very knowledgeable about Aboriginal culture and left with a deeper understanding of traditional life.

Steph Cook (MP) even dropped in to say hello.
Wiradjuri Language & Culture Camp
Eight Cowra High students and three staff were privileged to attend the first Wiradjuri Language and Culture Camp held at Lake Burrendong last week.
Initiated by the Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG), participants were treated to a variety of sessions including language, storytelling, artefacts, tools and weapons, dance, basket weaving, stargazing and boomerang throwing.
Held over two days, the students found the presenters engaging and returned to Cowra with an abundance of newfound knowledge to share with their families and peers.
Cowra High School extends their thanks to the AECG for providing the opportunity for such a worthwhile experience.
