Whole School Production ‘Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies’

WOW!!!! What an amazing night for everyone.  It’s official, our students are magnificent……What a show, 350 students on stage each night all with extremely polished performances and just loving the experience.  Musical productions are not all about learning your lines and convincing the audience of your character, it is so much more. There are very real, measurable and educational benefits.  Skills like, teamwork, commitment, resilience, responsibility, supporting your peers, following directions, respect, communication, patience, listening skills, understanding humour and cueing just to name a few.  Musical productions are fun, entertaining and thrilling experiences for both the audience and the students, and an experience that will be forever remembered.

There are many people to thank and I certainly hope on Thursday night we spoke and thanked all those who played a role in this production.  A few people however went above and beyond.  Our amazing community who came together as a village and stepped up to support this production, we thank you for your commitment. From Prop making and painting, to costumes, makeup, lighting, backstage direction and parents who gave up weekends to support students with practices and transporting students to practices …we thank you sincerely.  To our magnificent staff who all worked so hard with all students to give them a fabulous experience to remember, for your effort, care and time given, thank you.  Finally to our music/performing arts teacher Mr. Simon Fox for his passion, skilled direction and the amazing ability to have the vision to inspire our students to step out of their comfort zone and put their energies and  talents on show, we thank you.

Musical theatre enhances education and the positive outcomes and results for all students. We are so very fortunate that our curriculum at Boronia Heights supports amazing extra curricula programs that encourages students and gives choices to all students.

Wishing Leah a speedy recovery

Unfortunately our wonderful Assistant Principal Leah Hodgson has had a very nasty fall and broken her leg in three places.  She was operated on last Thursday and she will need to take time to recover.  I know you will join with me in sending our best wishes for a speedy recovery and hope that she will be back to us very soon.

Trivia Night

Our Trivia Night is our major fundraiser for this year and is a great way to get our community together for a fun filled night.  A notice was sent home this week to all families.  Don’t miss out on what will be a great night that you and your friends can share in.  Make up a table or we will happily place you on a table.  Wonderful prizes and silent auction items to bid on, so bring your change and credit card!!!  We are asking that no stilettos or high heels are worn on the night as we are still precious about our gym floor and want to preserve it, so wear comfy shoes, ugg boots or anything that will not scratch or damage the floor….SEE you there….

Educational Grant for our Oval

The process has begun in getting our new synthetic oval and running track and surrounding grounds refurbished, I have met the architects who are vying for the job and will interview them next week.  I am incredibly excited with the brief given to the architects and am looking forward to viewing their designs and ideas for this project.  Watch this space!

Curriculum Day

Last Friday staff worked with our educational consultant Lyn Watts on further developing and going deeper in our learning on our writing program and continuing to develop those links with reading.  Thank you to all staff for their amazing contributions to this day.

Parent Opinion Survey

WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour and student engagement. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

Approximately 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. This year the Parent Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 22rd July to Sunday 11th August.

The survey will be conducted online only takes 10-15 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include: Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Greek, Turkish, Somali and Punjabi.

Survey results will be reported back to the school at the end of September.

I thank you for taking the time to fill in this information as we take your feedback seriously and endeavor to take action on your responses.

National Tree Planting Day

This Friday is National Tree Planting Day.  Karen Evered will be working with our Environmental Leaders and Junior School Councilors to continue with the beautification of our school grounds.  They will be working at the front of the school planting and replanting and placing stepping stones to make this space a lovely entrance to our school whilst integrating areas for students to play in.

District Senior Hoop time

Our senior students did an amazing job in Yesterdays District Hooptime compettion. We had 2 teams progress to the next week. It has come to our attention that some schools are pulling out of this competition because of bad behaviour from parents. This is school based basketball program and as such we expect all parents to be positively supportive and encouraging to both coaches, students and umpires.

This term is another extremely busy one, please make sure you read all forms of communication well, newsletter and BLOGS are there to give support and information to everyone.  Take Care.
