School Council

School Council Update
On Tuesday evening this week the HPS School Council held the first meeting with the new members for 2023. Two key items of this meeting included the election of School Council Office Bearers, and the confirmation of the 2023 School Council Sub-Committees.
Congratulations and thank you to these council members who were nominated and elected to take on the following positions:
- School Council President - Emma-Jane Stabb
- School Council Vice-President - Bron Robins
- Secretary - Steve Zigomanis
- Treasurer - Scott Crawford
I would also like to thank these council members for volunteering to convene the following sub-committees:
- Buildings and Grounds - Hugh McKenzie
- Education (Curriculum) - Justin Lania
- Education (Wellbeing) - Helen Thomas
- School Age Care (SAC) - Carol Dawson
- Finance - Scott Crawford
- Community Engagement (Fundraising) - Emma-Jane Stabb
All HPS school community members are welcome to join sub-committee meetings, without making the broader commitment to the school council. These meetings will be held twice a term in the week prior to the school council meeting. The meetings will be held online to allow a greater number of people to attend, with the dates, times and meeting links shared ahead of time. Please stay tuned on this page for updates on future times of sub-committee meetings.
Office Bearer Profiles
Emma-Jane Stabb – President
Emma-Jane returns for her second year on School Council, taking on the role of President for 2023. Emma-Jane has been around the school since long before her children attended the school - her husband Daniel attended HPS and mother-in-law Glenda was a teacher at the school for many years! Currently she has three children at the school - James in Year 5, Eva in Year 2, and Beth in Fou. Over the last five years, Emma-Jane has been involved closely with the Community and Fundraising program, organising an array of different events for the school. Emma-Jane joined school council initially to be more involved in the shaping of the future of the school. It comes as no surprise that she enjoys working with people, and she believes that her skill in networking to “get the right people in the right jobs” is a great asset. Whilst maintaining a strong sense of community through time with her family and friends, the rest of Emma-Jane’s time is spend working as a GP (which she has done full time for 12 years), tearing it up on the netball court, or running at the local park.
Bronwyn Robins – Vice President
In her second year as a parent at HPS, Bron joins School Council for the first time in 2023. She has a son, Talyn, in Year 3. Citing her transferrable skills from being a class parent rep, helping in the classroom, and holding a previous position on the Committee of Management at Heidelberg Pre-School, Bron has mentioned that she enjoys the element of being involved in community was a motivating factor behind nominating for Council. Through the week, Bron is a Landscape Architect whilst also studying Horticulture at Melbourne Polytechnic – but she wishes that she had more time to squeeze in a couple of extra yoga classes!
Steve Zigomanis – Secretary
Steve is back for his second year on School Council, but families who have been around a while may remember him from his time on Finance and SAC committees in previous years. Steve currently has a son, Timothy, in Year 6 and two more children, Alannah and Rachael, who both finished at HPS in 2021. Steve and his family have been involved with numerous functions, fetes, and working bees over the years, but said that the decision to nominate for council was one which he stewed on for a couple of years. He said that he was motivated by “the opportunity to be involved with policy to find improvement for both staff and students”. Whilst time with family is paramount to Steve nowadays, he fondly recalled his passions for both his old Jaguar car and his beloved Collingwood Football Club, which might find themselves at front of mind again soon!
Scott Crawford – Treasurer
For the second year running, Scott joins us on School Council. Scott has two children currently at HPS, Campbell in Year 3 and Alistair in Foundation. Scott believes that parents can make contributions in different ways to foster a positive environment in and around the school. He felt that given the limitations over the last few years with minimal chance for parent involvement that it was a good time to put his hand up. Previously, Scott was involved with the Master Plan Sub-Committee. In his spare time, Scott can be seen roaming through Heidelberg with a very disobedient Golden Retriever, curating his garden, or maintaining his long-distance relationship with the West Coast Eagles.
