School Council Information in the newsletter

Throughout 2023, we aim to continue to  build community understanding of the purpose of School Council, but also ways that HPS families can actively engage with school council. As part of this process, we have added a designated School Council page to the newsletter.  Please take a moment to look through this page, which includes information regarding the recent school council elections and development of sub-committees.

School Age Care Day Program - Curriculum Day (Thursday 4th May)

As you will be aware, on Thursday 4th May (Week 2) HPS will be closed to students for a planned curriculum day. As we had throughout 2022, the School Age Care (SAC) program will be running a Day Program for students.  Registration information will be shared on Monday 24th April and will close on Monday 1st May.

Student Leadership - GRIP Conference

During this week the school captains, and members of the Junior School Council, had the opportunity to travel into the city to attend the GRIP Student Leadership Conference

at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

Many thanks to Helen Thomas and Claire Jackson for the organisation of the trip and their support of the students on the day.  Thank you also to Kristy Davis for her time and support on the day. Below are some thoughts from the students who attended:

  • We took a train to the GRIP leadership conference. GRIP stands for Generosity, Responsibility, Integrity and People. We learned about ways to bring school together. Choose peoples strengths. If you identify their strengths, you can invite them personally and it might mean more to them – Grace Yr 4
  • It was very good. We learned how we can improve the school and ideas that schools have already done for inspiration – Oscar Yr 6
  • I think It was great how they got us to interact with other schools and get their perspectives – Rachel Yr 6
  • As a leader, we need to think of other people first – Kha Yr 6
  • I was feeling really excited because I was in front of 2000 people and I got a badge – Hunter Yr 4
  • I felt really excited – Aspian Yr 4
  • One important thing is that we should think about our ideas, write it out instead of going straight into it, and take it slow. – Arthur Yr 5
  • It was very nice to be in the atmosphere, it was really fancy. Think of people who look up to you, people who are left out and like-minded. You have to be willing to carry the load - Ainya Yr 5
  • Look out for people who are not doing things who might want to be a part of things that they might enjoy. If you’re the person who came up with the idea, lift the heavy weights and let people help out. Look people that we impact so they feel needed and wanted – Henry Yr 6
