STEM & Kitchen Garden

The seedlings propagated in Foundation were planted into the garden with more seeds planted by the 1/2 classes.

Students have been eagerly learning about living things with Foundation looking at ants, Years 3 and 4, food webs and Years 5 and 6, micro-organisms.

In the kitchen Year 5 and 6 students finished their unit on bread by extending the variety of grains used, to corn in Mexican corn bread. Two very excited Year 1/2 classes started their unit on potatoes learning about potato production, farm to plate and preparing potato and leek soup with cheese croutons.

‘Potage Parmentier’ as it is known in France is named after Antoine Parmentier, the French agronomist who campaigned during the reign of Louis XVI, to have the potato declared a safe and edible vegetable. At the time, potatoes were banned in France as they were considered to be poisonous, and only suitable for pig feed.
