School Council News

Meet our 2023 School Council

On behalf of our School Council, I would like to welcome all students, educators, staff and parents back to Altona College in 2023.

It is hard to believe that we are already in week 8 of the school year and I hope that all students and families have settled back into the routine of lunch boxes, drop-offs, pick-ups and nightly reading/homework!

I would also like to introduce myself and the rest of your College Council. My name is Kade Dillon and this is my third year on School Council. My son, Ollie, is in Grade 2 at the College and he will be joined by his younger brother in 2024. This year, I will be taking on the role of President of the School Council, trying to fill the large shoes left by Sarah Brooker, who was our Council President in 2022.

I am joined on Council this year by:

Belle Jackson – Vice President [Parent representative]

Kelly Archibald – Treasurer [Parent representative]

Sarah Prismall – Fundraising sub-committee [Parent representative]

Casey Sperling – Fundraising sub-committee [Staff representative]

Christina Stasey – Fundraising sub-committee [Student representative]

Tania Sinclair-Camilleri – Policy sub-committee [Parent representative]

Mathew Kelly – Policy sub-committee [Staff representative]

Sarah Brooker – Building & Grounds sub-committee [Community representative]

Michael Drozdek – Building & Grounds sub-committee [Student representative]

Casey Aldridge – [Community representative – Altona Early Years Hub]

Julie Krause – [Principal]

We need you! Opportunities to get involved with the school

Do you have a skill that could help Altona College? We are calling for nominations for our Council sub-committees, which are a great opportunity to ‘dip your toe into the water’.

Sub-committees meet every 4 to 8 weeks, generally before or after business hours, and provide a valuable opportunity to contribute the future of our school. They are also supported by a School Council member.

The sub-committees that we need extra volunteers for are:

Fundraising sub-committee

The fundraising committee provides advice and coordinates school fundraising activities including the Mother’s Day stall, Father’s Day stall, Christmas raffle & stall and Bunnings BBQs.

Building & Grounds sub-committee

The Building and Grounds sub-committee supports the development of the annual College Infrastructure priorities and provides advice relating to building and grounds projects. Current projects include delivery of our stage 2 capital works program, sensory garden development and cubby house development. Future priorities will likely include installing solar panels and a covered bike shelter.

To nominate for a sub-committee, please send your interest to altona.co@education.vic.gov.au

College Open Evening

Our Open Evening will take place on Wednesday 5th April with displays and five information sessions to showcase our college.

Grab a bite at the food trucks and check out our wonderful facilities, including our new sensory garden!
