Week 7 Term 1

Dear Parents and Carers,

It is with great sadness that I begin my newsletter today.

On Friday night, Jammy Mmadike passed away suddenly in Nigeria. Jammy was over in Nigeria visiting family. He was the husband of Pasquline, father of Genevieve 5/6OS, Micah 5/6GT and Zita 3/4BZ. This morning we shared some prayers and prayed for the Mmdike family both in Australia and in Nigeria.

Death can be difficult to understand especially when it is sudden. We will all be experiencing a mix of emotions: shock, sadness or confusion. What is most important is that we care for and support each other.

Sally, our Wellbeing leader and our two psychologists, will be available to speak to any child requiring extra support. The teachers have tried to answer the children's questions in school, using age-appropriate and honest language.

For more information about speaking to children and young people about death, visit:

Our thoughts and prayers are with Mmadike's family and friends at this time.

THANK YOU.. THANK YOU.. THANK YOU..

On Sunday a group of parents, carers and teachers gathered as a Catholic Community and volunteered their time at our annual Bunnings Sausage Sizzle fundraiser.

In the Gospel of Matthew 18:20, we read the phrase

“FOR WHERE TWO OR THREE GATHER IN MY NAME, THERE AM I WITH THEM

Our Lord was certainly present at our Sausage Sizzle as the parents of St Fidelis gathered, cooked, talked and laughed with each other. Parents took it in shifts to do their bit for the school and their children. Parents who could not volunteer came to buy a sausage and it was fantastic to see them supporting our school. This is a great fundraiser that the P&F organize each year. I am extremely grateful to the volunteers for giving generously of their time. A special thank you to Tara Soares (a member of the P&F) who was the main driver of this event. Thank you to the P & F committee who raised an impressive $2,216.25!
