SPOTLIGHT

Spotlight on Kindergarten

Kindergarten had an amazing day experiencing Green Day and The Colour Run on Friday 17th March. The day was a great success with lots of happy little green people and then later on rainbow people enjoying the colour run with their families.

This week has seen some very tired teachers and children returning to school. The Kindergarten teachers are listening to the children read and it is exciting to see them trying out the strategies we have talked about. The children have been tracking words with their fingers, segmenting, (using sounds to stretch out the word), as well as using picture cues to help them decode. WOW!

Next week we are looking forward to some buddy time with our Year 6 friends so that we can create our Easter Hats. Just remember to save time to come to the K-2 Easter Hat Parade on Tuesday 4th April at 2.15 pm.

Year 4 Spotlight

In History Year 4 has been learning about the early Sea Explorers who discovered Australia. While we acknowledge that the indigenous people have lived in Australia for thousands of years, the European sea explorers gradually pieced together the shores of Australia.

We now know that Captain Cook was NOT the first European explorer to discover Australia.  Take a look at the timeline we created of the European explorers as proof that Cook was not the first.

In Art, over the past few weeks we used our sketching skills to create olden day sailing ships to link with our History program. We are very proud of the final product and ask you to have a look at a few photographs that we included.

MaST update...

MaST Project in Kindergarten

Along with their many other amazing adventures at their new school, Kindergarten students have been making some amazing discoveries in Mathematics as part of the MaST project.

Students have been given a variety of opportunities to represent and manipulate 2D shapes in different orientations. This grounding in concrete material will give students a sound foundation of exactly what a shape is, and allows for many oral language opportunities.

At the end of Week 6, Kindergarten completed some wonderful ‘Shape Pizza’s’ to demonstrate their knowledge of the different shapes they had encountered during this unit.
