Year 10 Business Excursion

We are delighted to share with you that our Year 10 business students recently had the opportunity to visit West Ashgrove Shopping Village to analyse the business environment and types of businesses. The visit was a part of our efforts to provide hands-on learning experiences to our students and help them gain practical knowledge of the business world.

During the visit, our students had the opportunity to explore the shopping village and analyse various businesses operating there. We were grateful to the local businesses, such as FitStop which provided insight into their business models, the target audience, and the marketing strategies used by the businesses to attract customers.

We are extremely grateful to Councillor Steven Toomey from the Gap Ward office, who spent time with our students and shared valuable insights about the local business environment. His expertise and guidance proved to be invaluable for our students and helped them gain a deeper understanding of the local business ecosystem.

The visit was an enriching experience for our students, as they were able to apply the theoretical concepts they had learned in the classroom to the real world. They gained a practical understanding of how businesses operate and the challenges they face in the competitive market. The visit also helped our students develop critical thinking and analytical skills, which are essential for success in the business world.

We believe that such experiential learning opportunities are crucial for the holistic development of our students. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Councillor Steven Toomey and the West Ashgrove Shopping Village for their support and cooperation in making this visit possible.

Market Day for Year 8 Commerce Students – New Token System

It's time for the much-awaited Market Day for Year 8 Commerce students. This is a fantastic opportunity for the students to put their commerce skills into practice and learn about the ins and outs of running a business.

The market day will take place today and Thursday 2 March.  A range of products will be for sale including doughnuts, garlic bread, and biscuits prepared by our hospitality students as well as a sausage sizzle and drinks. This is a great opportunity for students to sample some delicious food while supporting their peers.

Market days are an important part of financial literacy as they provide students with hands-on experience in managing money and making financial decisions. During market days, students have the opportunity to understand the basic principles of supply and demand, pricing, and budgeting. They learn how to set prices for their products, manage their finances, and make important decisions about their spending.

Additionally, market days also provide students with the opportunity to develop critical thinking skills, communication skills, and teamwork skills. These skills are essential in the real world and can be transferable to other areas of life.

This year a token system will be implemented for payment. This means that customers can purchase tokens using their student ID cards and use these tokens to purchase food and drinks throughout the market. This will make the purchasing process quicker whilst maximizing learning for our students. Students will be able to purchase tokens before school, during pastoral group and at lunchtime.

We encourage everyone to top up their cards and come along and support the Year 8 Commerce students. All proceeds will be going towards our Lenten Appeal.
